• Act as the supervisors of a facility's nursing staff. Allocate duties and evaluate the performance of other nurses. Train any newly hired nurses.

• Evaluates and documents the performance of nursing staff within the ER.
• Counsel nurses if they make errors in administering medication or tending to patient comfort.
• Ensures admission and discharges are documented and supervises the work of nurses in the department.
• Carries out ER nursing duties when resources are limited, including helping with the transit and treatment of injured patients, and consulting physicians to recommend treatment changes.
• Ensures relatives and patients understand the nature and necessity of any treatment administered.
• Render nursing care independently, usually to one patient in hospital or private home.
• Administer medications, treatments, dressing, and other nursing services, according to physician’s instructions and condition of patient.
• Observes, evaluates, and records symptoms.
• Applies independent emergency measures to counteract adverse developments and notifies physician of patient’s conditions.
• Gives information to family in treatment of patient and maintenance of healthful environment.
• Maintains equipment and medical supplies.
• Supervise diet of the patient when employed in private home.
