The total logistics activities of the companies are my responsibility, which include price
negotiations, supply and delivery contracts together with supplier vetting and tender awarding.
• Procurement: In the department are 12 buyers and a Chief Buyer, processing some 19 000
orders per month, with a monthly value of around US$ 15 million
• Goods Receiving: 8 GRV clerks and a Supervisor
• Import Export: Two clerks that handle all export and imports of parts and mining equipment.
• Warehouses: 9 site warehouses inside South Africa which are staffed with 3 clerks and one
supervisor each.
• This would include consumables, fuel, lubrication, parts, supplier’s consignment stock, OTR
tyres etc. Total line items were in the region of 12 350 with a total inventory stock holding of some
US$ of 14.5 mil.
• We have two sites at present outside the borders of South Africa, namely in Namibia and in
Mozambique, with operational warehouses. We had opencast mining activities also in Zimbabwe,
Zambia and the DRC.
• Head Office Warehousing: 6 store men, 2 forklift drivers and a supervisor.
• MCC does all procurement centrally, and receiving and dispatching is done on a hub and
spoke basis.
• All inventory levels of the various ware houses are managed centrally, which includes
replenishment, adjustment of critical items stock holding levels, identification of redundant/ slow
moving items and consignment and PEX stock.
• Transport: There are 12 trucks of which 8 are low beds, 2 crane trucks and 2x 8 ton
transporters that make up the transport department.
• MCC has implemented SAP as an ERP solution in March 2013.
• I was a member of the SAP implementation Steercom, and am the Business Owner of
Materials Management within SAP.
• Before joining MCC I spent 18 years in the banking environment and have a well developed
financial background, which includes budgeting, reporting and monitoring.
