As Lead/Senior Structural Engineer
▪ Recommended and implemented an advance analysis method that avoided drastic
changes in the design due to additional and unconsidered loads. Critical members were
proven to be suitable amidst the overall load modifications due to reduction in base shear
inherent to the method used in re-analysis. The project a 20-story casino-hotel building is
very fluid in nature, where the team is constantly under pressure in providing calculations
and details for implementation of an ongoing construction project.
▪ Deflection of the 20-meter entrance canopy of above project was resolved by
reconfiguring the truss.
▪ Review Change Requests (CR), provide concepts to accommodate such changes,
coordinates this with internal QA, design the changes, determine effects on adjacent
members, reflect the effects on drawings, relay modifications to drafting group, finalize
the drawings and provide substantiations for CR.
▪ Respond to RFIs, determine if this would have adverse effect on structure, inform PM
and TM if there is any major effect on structure. Initiate a CR if necessary. RFI ranges
from mere beam designation query, connection detail, clash, construction restriction to
major changes such as provision of specific details to redesign of certain portions of the
structure.
▪ Informs PM and TM on critical matters on site regarding construction practice,
methodology and implementation.
▪ Schedule manhours and deadlines. Submit timeline projection of tasks to PM and TM.
▪ Initiate meeting with team regarding timeline, resource allocation and technical approach
to be implemented on the concept and detailed design.
▪ Disseminate tasks to intermediate and junior engineers. Provide guidance to the team.
▪ Peer review of foundation for different schemes using tie-beams, pile caps and piles for
cement mill capacity expansion.
▪ Detailed design of Main switchboard buildings for a port facility in Picton, New Zealand.
▪ Detailed design of geothermal brine facility pipe supports and access platforms.
▪ Detailed design of temporary deck and other temporary structures for Metro Manila
Subway considering top down construction sequence.
▪ Assessment of an existing dry dock for feasibility of procuring the asset which
constitutes preliminary capacity calculations of counterfort wall and foundation using
finite element method. Update of preliminary report considering ASR affected concrete.
Coordination on which seismic procedure and code to be used for succeeding submittals.
▪ Sign and seal of structural drawings for pile rectification works. Verification of stability
and capacity of pile rectification. Coordination regarding history, calculation, contract,
and specifications with previous CH2M engineers who initially proposed the rectification
works for installation of new quay cranes at Berths 3 and 4 on Pier 3 of Manila South
Harbor. The new cranes will require suitable tie-down anchors for use during high wind
conditions (including typhoons).
▪ High level executive summary report on the underwater inspection and ultrasonic
thickness gauging (UTG) on selected piles at MSW, Pier 16 and Pier 14. Rendered
preliminary recommendations which ensued after analysis of existing pier and slipway
for adequacy of new quay cranes. Pier deflections during operation and dilapidated
structural members observed. Preliminary analysis of pier and tied back wharf to justify
requirement of additional piles and retrofitting. Drafted completion and payment
certifications for a contractor specialized in field testing.

Approved as Senior Structural Engineer by Royal Commission Yanbu (employer client).

Model structures in structural software and design the components (from roofing to foundation; all members and connections or joints).

Coordinate with other disciplines regarding utility layout and collision. See to it that interdisciplinary design requirement is resolved

Provide preliminary design results as required. In this stage, applicant anticipates and considers detail problems like rebar congestion on joints and members; and steel connection suitability and resolves this early on. Assess method statement for demolition and its sequence with respect to safety and structural integrity. Crane lifting procedure/distance/capacity/drawings, scaffold location plans and details are also included in this assessment. Verify vendor, specialty supplier, or third party structural calculations (i.e. precast connections, sun shade tensile tents, informative gantries, entrance gantries).

Conducts plant inspections for suppliers of major items such as cement and precast concrete. Witness material testing (bolt tensile strength test as per ASTM) in owner approved laboratories in Kuwait. Witness third party non-destructive testing (ultrasonic examination), core sampling of pavements, rebar scanning of existing concrete foundations, and concrete compressive strength by rebound hammer on site.

Compares construction survey results with consultant IFC drawings.

Review contractor structural computation submittal for changes in structural systems or materials and assess the impact on other utilities and discipline (i.e. change of drop beam to flat/concealed beam system).

Determine if structural elements (telecomm box, substation foundation, camera pole rigidity, utility pedestals etc.) for other disciplines/utilities are appropriate, as per code, as per client specifications. Coordinates aspects such as pipe sleeves or wire bends can be accommodated.

Checks as-built plans and sees to it that all approved modifications, relocations, field adjustments, change orders, actual site conditions arised during construction and not stipulated in the IFC drawings were reflected.

Review structural computations for each project. Sees to it that the loads applied are as per code and as per what is reflected on architectural, mechanical, plumbing and electrical plans.

Ensures lateral loads are properly applied in the structural software and that, the modeling of the building in the software would simulate realistic behavior.

Inspect other input parameters in the structural software to obtain accurate results. Sees to it that the results or the output of the program, are properly interpreted and reflected in the structural drawings.

Meets with clients for coordination of further requirements if requested.

Coordinates with other disciplines for, verification or redirection of utility lines if necessary, and clarification of established elevations if it is consistent with all other disciplines.

Gives instructions and disseminate work accordingly to Junior Structural Engineers and all level of draftsmen.

Determination of design category of the structure and site. This includes material strength specifications and evaluation of site characteristics like soil type, near source factors and the like.
