Responsibilities:
• Performing a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures including receiving, grossing, processing and embedding specimens.
• Performing Microtomy, Cytology, Immunofluorscence and Immunohistochemistry techniques both manually and via instruments.
• Carrying out staining procedures including Enzymes Histochemistry staining methods and other special stains.
• Conducting biopsy procedures giving priority to frozen sections and fresh specimens.
• Providing information for diagnoses and treatment by preparing microscopic tissue specimens for pathologists.
• Collecting specimens and checking them for criteria of acceptability; assuring proper patient identification; specimen integrity; assigning identification numbers; logging specimens.
• Photographing and preparing tissue specimens by treating tissue with chemicals, slicing, and mounting on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis. Conducting decalcification of bone specimen.
• Helping pathologist with tissue grossing procedures by preparing the tissue grossing area with appropriate materials and instruments; maintaining and assuring specimen identification by labeling cassettes; maintaining workflow in concert with the pathologist.
