1. General
Delegates clinical roles to qualified personnel.
Responsible for quality assurance in all aspects of testing.
Responsible for proficiency testing for all employees as required, reviews results and addresses problems with corrective actions.

2. Medical Oversight:
Oversees and ensures laboratory departments are efficiently functioning and all duties are properly performed

Reporting routine and complex histopathology and cytology cases of all specialties. AMPATH caters to American Oncology Institute (AOI) which is dedicated Oncology hospital as well as Citizens Hospital which is a multi-specialty hospital. AMPATH is as well a Reference laboratory which operates in collaboration with UPMC and caters to many neighboring cities.

Reporting Immunohistochemistry (IHC) tests for definitive diagnosis and prognostication of oncological specimens from a repertoire of 100 plus IHC markers. In addition reporting MSI for colonic adenocarcinomas and ALK, EGFR amplification in lung adenocarcinomas etc.

Guiding and training of Registrars in Grossing and reporting.
Training and continuous education of technical staff.
Active participation in WEEKLY TUMOR BOARD conferences with team of oncologists from UPMC and AOI for evidence based patient management.

Responsible for interacting and acting on the behalf of the laboratory with patient-centered medical heads at Citizens hospital and AOI and key clients and customers.

Conducts periodic internal group meetings in order to stay abreast about the functioning and problems encountered in the different medical areas.

Discusses new tests and initiatives with various department heads across the campus.

Prioritizes implementation of initiatives and tests.

Works with administration to garner resources for any new initiatives and tests.

Ensures recording and reporting of test results are prompt, accurate and proficient.

3. QA / QC:
Defines, implements and monitors standards of performance including:
The selection, establishment and supervision of appropriate testing procedures and the standards related to such procedures
The development and implementation of policies and procedures
The accuracy, precision and clinical relevance of laboratory test results
Sample collection and specimen accessioning and preparation procedures
Reviews current standards of performance with the respective medical and administrative heads and directors.
Conducts periodic meetings with the CEO about medical initiatives and needs as well as laboratory operations and functionality

4. Annual Reviews:

Conducts annual reviews of the departmental managers / supervisors.
Conducts annual reviews of other medical staff as required.
Participates in the reviews of administrative leadership.

5. Business Development and Outreach:

Participates in developing relationships with clients (physicians/hospitals/other labs).
