Sunrise City Group is a leading retailer in Dubai which caters manily to Asian expatriates. The Comapany is in operation for more than 30 years and is on the threshold of rapid expansion in UAE as well as in India.

My role is primarily to set up a Warehousing and Distribution facility which can cater to the growing needs of the business.
1) Optimizing the storage area: By doing this I will be able to cater to the business when the operations grow from 5 to 8 outlets withion this year.
2) Automating the productions units: Spices and pulses produced and/or packed in the company's own label is one of the USPs of the group. By automating, we will reduce manual labour, increase output which will result in increase in sales.
3) Streamling the transportation operations: To bring the fleet of 14 vehicles under one roof to reduce operational costs and to improve customer service.
4) Centralising the local purchases: To control inventory movement and purchases.
5) Centralising the vegetable purchases: Another USP which needs to be taken care of. By doing this we will be able to reduce wastages and control Inventory and purchases.
6) Implementing a WMS system: For better inventory control.

I was handling IT as an additional responsibility to bring the best business practices and to streamline operations.

I was also involved in the training of the staff in the warehouse as well as in the supermarkets on Inventory control, document control, merchandising, customer service etc.

Warehouse In-charge at Spinneys Jebel Ali

With my experience in Inventory Control, System support and implementation and end user training, I was asked to take charge of setting up and running a ditribution centre for FMCG items inside the Jebel Ali Freezone.
This facility has been setup as a 'Stress test' base for the new business processed the company was planning to implement in their Logistics and Distribution strategy which included Goods picking using PDAs, doing away with Batch Management, reducing Inventory carrying cost by better managing the procurement process, better fleet management etc.
I set these processes, tested it and trained the end users singlehandedly. E-clearance was succesfully implemented and is being used for all the current deliveries to all our supermarkets in DXB and SHJ.
In the course of the project, I had to liaise with the Dubai Municipality and Customs on various operational requirements.
