Project Description: Working for a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) at a billion dollar project in Cairo, Egypt involved with the construction of a new museum near to the pyramids of Giza

Responsibilities/Tasks:
• Managing the HSE department to ensure that effective HSE Management is maintained throughout the project area which includes the monitoring on the behalf of the Client all construction activities and associated processes.
• Undertaking ISO related audits / inspections of the Contractor for compliance with Client requirements, Egyptian legislation and international best practice. Areas of audit/inspection - construction site, workshops, storage areas, offices and occupational health, welfare facilities. Main project risks involved - multiple tower crane operations, deep excavations, high level scaffolding, work at height including construction plant and equipment.
• Undertaking trend analysis of inspection findings for the purpose of highlighting main issues found and actions required to reduce risk
• Giving advice giving to engineers of all disciplines including management of Client, PMC and Contractor
• Ensuring accident / incident investigations are undertaken with root cause and corrective and preventive actions initiated in order to prevent reoccurrence
• Review of full range of PMC and Contractor HSE documentation (HSE Plan, Emergency Response, Fire Safety Management, Heat Stress, Method Statements/Risk Assessments etc) to ensure that specifications / regulations are adhered to
• Review of PMC HSE Management System to ensure that it fulfills contractual requirements
• Giving training to Contractor HSE personnel and for PMC employees to enhance competencies
• Authoring monthly and annual HSE reports for the purpose of trend analysis and indicating areas of improvement
• Chairing bi-weekly HSE meetings with the Contractor HSE and Construction management to ensure that all aspects of Project HSE matters are discussed and dealt with accordingly
• Instigating and chairing meetings for accident / incident review including where HSE performance required improvements

Working for a Supervision Consultancy within a major project in Qatar involved with the construction of a new city; Lusail. Duties included;
• Managing and coaching a team of HSE Officers responsible for a wide number of large infra-structure construction packages which consist of the building of highways, underpasses, bridges, underground utilities and shafts, marine works, sub-stations and landscaping
• Undertaking ISO audits / inspections of contractors for compliance with Client requirements, Qatar legislation and international best practice

Project Description: Working for a local municipality as an Interim Health and Safety Officer (whilst both permanent H&S Officers were on long term sick leave)

Responsibilities/Tasks:
• Undertaking inspections of the whole aspect of local government which included areas of office safety, fire safety, highways maintenance, parks and leisure amenities, museums, waste collection, local retail centers i.e. shopping malls, indoor/outdoor markets under local government control, community protection and enforcement, sports facilities.
• Undertaking and planning of compliance verification audits.
• Reviewing contractor safety documentation to ensure that proper planning and job execution takes place there-by minimizing risk to the local authority
• Accident investigation and working with the insurance department to ensure that claims are investigated and advised upon.

Project Description: Working for a UK wide Testing, Inspection and Compliance Services company within the Materials Testing Division carrying out full Health and Safety Management compliance.

Responsibilities/Tasks:
• Health and Safety Inspection of Test laboratory facilities (Concrete cube testing, Metallurgy Testing and Mechanical Investigation)
• Health and Safety Inspection of Technicians involved with carrying out Field Testing on construction sites (ground compaction testing, pile load testing).
• Health and Safety Inspection of Coal & Biomass testing services within power stations and docks.
• Monthly presentation of Health and Safety statistics to divisional directors with trend analysis
• Organizing a safety initiative for European Safety Week “Safe Maintenance Campaign” involving training sessions to all levels of staff from director to shop floor level.

Responsibilities/Tasks:
• Sewage / Water treatment works - undertaking HSE inspections of construction activities i.e. excavations, pipe work installations, construction plant safety, scaffold structure erections, electrical and mechanical installations and fluoridation scheme installations.
• Highways - undertaking HSE inspections of construction activities i.e. motorway crash barrier installations, major road traffic roundabout removal to improve traffic flow, overhead concrete motorway flyover repairs.
• Flood defence works - undertaking HSE inspections of construction activities i.e. confined spaces with water culverts, river diversions, minor dam constructions, river embankment installations and improvements.
