Performs various procedures to aid medical practitioners confirm clinical diagnosis or make differential diagnosis that would ultimately influence the management of patients.
In charge with the specific section assigned, involving duties in supervision and performance of laboratory procedures.
• Performs tests and other procedures in the section.
• Prepares and submits to the Supervisor the requisition of supplies and reagents regularly.
• Checks the reports of test results prepared by the Staff Medical Technologist.
• Implements Quality Control/Assurance Program in the section.
• Gathers and submits monthly census of the Laboratory tests done.
• Receives written requisitions from physicians for routine or special laboratory tests.
• Obtains laboratory specimens, such as urine, blood from wards or directly from patient, using established laboratory techniques.
• Indicates amount to be charged to patient’s account.
• Sets up and adjusts laboratory equipment and apparatus, such as chemical glassware, balance, microscope, slides and reagents.
• Performs various chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic studies to obtain data for use in diagnostic and treatment of disease.
• Prepares slides for microscopic analysis as necessary.
• Observes reactions, changes of color or formation of precipitates, studies slides using microscope, or subjects treated specimens to automatic analyzing equipment to make findings at laboratory for study by Pathologist or other laboratory supervisor.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness in the department.
• Releases laboratory results to out-patients and various nurse stations.
• Records and files laboratory results.
• Identifies and labels all specimens to be retained and files them for further reference or research.
• Performs other duties that the Head of the Laboratory may assign.
