Seeking flexible working hours, I resumed my career as a home based freelancer working with different companies, initiatives and individuals in Jordan, UAE and USA. Dealing with various types of documents, mostly in the field of education, for companies like ezetop, Weigl Publishers, Avantgarde, University Bookshop, Tribal Group, ConnecMe Educational Solutions, Meran Training and Arabic Flavour Initiative.
I also work as a Freelance Consecutive Interpreter for training courses conducted by Abu Dhabi Police GHQ through different training institutions in Abu Dhabi.
Latest projects: Translating 52 children nonfictional titles from English to Arabic for a publisher providing books to ADEC, and the annual reports of ADEC’s School Inspection Committee. I’ve also been translating the social media content for big companies through PR agencies such as QDB and Toyota Qatar.
Working at the Australian Embassy as a Translator and Protocol Officer / Security Officer following the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra, Australia, and reporting directly to the Deputy Head of Mission (Chargé d'Affaires) and to Ambassador. My duties include the following:
Translation and Interpretation (Translator):
- Translate documents as requested with an emphasis on timeliness and accuracy, and insuring translation and interpreting functions are fully completed, with sensitivity towards idiom and implicit messages, all in a timely fashion.
- Act as interpreter as required on official appointments for the Ambassador, VIP visitors and for consular cases by providing high quality and timely responses to requests for information.
Protocol (Protocol Officer)
- Act as the liaison point for the Embassy with UAE and Qatari government departments.
- Maintain excellent contact networks with UAE and Qatari government departments.
- Develop and arrange programs for official and VIP visitors to the UAE and Qatar including appointments, transport, security, accommodation and VIP airport facilitation arrangements.
- Arrange meetings for the Ambassador, Australian diplomats and VIP visitors in the UAE and Qatar.
- Draft Embassy’s diplomatic notes and correspondence out-going to various government departments in UAE and Qatar, and maintain a registry of incoming and out-going diplomatic notes over all.
- Ensuring management and visitor satisfaction in the effective organization and delivery of visit programs including attention to details of visit arrangements and logistics.
- Initiate projects without close supervision and use contacts and other sources (including internet sources) to access information required.
Security (Security Officer)
- Assist the Deputy Head of Mission in provision of security related advice and in liaising with local security authorities such as Abu Dhabi Police and Diplomatic Protection Directorate.
Contracted for the U.S. Department of Defense and worked at the American Base (Camp As Sayliyyah) - Doha, Qatar at the Combined Media Processing Center (CMPC). My duties included the following: . First I worked as a linguist; translating documents from Arabic to English using special computers to achieve the translation project's goals. . I was promoted afterwards to be Translation Quality Checker (QC) in charge of reviewing files and documents translated by a team of 45 linguists to check their quality of work and the accuracy of the information they provide. . In addition to that, I was selected to be a team trainer in charge of training my team members after receiving updates on how the workflow should go and implementing the new rules in translation. I was also responsible for training new members joining the team. . I received 2 certificates, one for being a member of the best translation team out of other 7 teams, and another one as an appreciation letter for my efforts in achieving the project's goals.
Worked for 11 months at a non-profit organization under the name of “Arab Education Forum”, one of the Arab Contemporary Studies Program projects at Harvard University.
My duties included the following:
. I was the Webmaster in charge of the Forum's website, www.almoultaqa.com, (Content, translation, editing and design).
. In charge of translating the Forum's daily reports and annual books.
. My job included traveling to different Arab countries to participate in international events in order to collect data for the website and coordinate with international educational institutes and individuals.
Worked for eight months as a Freelance translator with a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) under the name of “Charity at Incubator” or “الجود للرعاية العلمية”. Used to translate scripts from English to Arabic for the following web site: http://www.ngoce.org.
Worked for two years at Music Box records Store as a Sales Woman helping customers with the records in the show room and handled cash register.
Completed the Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) Site Designer. MS-Office 2000 / XP (Word, Excel, Outlook & Front Page) + Internet. Adobe PhotoShop 6.0, Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Macromedia Flash MX, Macromedia Fireworks MX, HTML, Java Script.
Had a wep page design course that delt with HTML, Front Page, Flash and Java Script. 90%.
*Participated in a specialized training course in Simultaneous and Journalistic Translation (summer 2001) at the university’s English Department labs. *Courses at university included: Political Translation (1&2), Simultaneous Translation (1&2), Legal Translation (1&2), Journalistic Translation (1&2), Economic and Administrative Translation (1&2), Literary Translation, Scientific Translation and Tourist Translation. *Graduation Paper: Games as an Innovative Method in Teaching Children English Language.
Had an intensive Spanish course (Level one) at the Cervantes Institute in Amman. Planning to continue.
Completed the Jordanian Tawjihi (High School) in the Literary stream and graduated with the average of 73%.
