SRE, heading a large multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, inspectors, surveyors, construction and engineering safety assurance managers, planners, commercial and contracts officers, responsible for a 1billion AED APM project as part of DXB-Dubai Int. Airport Extension. This includes the fixed facilities of; a 1.3km long viaduct, two stations and the Innovia 300 APM system involving; the management of System specialist review of CDRL’s, W/S’s, PDR’s, FDR’s, FAT.s & SAT’s etc.
Leading design works and independent design reviews of numerous bridges on a number of rail and highway projects in the Middle East including Makkah Metro, King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and others.
Carrying out feasibility study, option reports and costing of some 50km marine bridge between Jazan, south west of Saudi near Yemeni border and the island of Farasan

Principal Design Manager/Senior RE

Overall technical responsibility for new builds and strengthening of rail bridges and structures. Collectively responsible for aspects of quality, project delivery, technical support to staff, organisational procedures and overall job cost control as well as producing fee estimates, resource planning and programmes, monitoring budgetary controls and KPI measures. Also acting as a CRE on numerous projects including Bletchley and Milton Keynes Remodelling (265M), Ebbw Valley new lines and various other projects.

Developing rail design procedures and guidelines, management system, activities check-list (to help define the scope of work and agree deliverables with the client and the production of a more accurate cost, time and resource (CTR) schedule, as well as forming the basis for the project handbook and procurement of subcontractor/consultants and specialists), flow charts, fee estimates work sheet and creating a pool of technical database, such as list of standards spreadsheet, design, site specific and financial risk assessment to guide designers working on rail commissions and to help streamline the business by adopting a common approach throughout Amec Group to design activities/deliverables to maximise the output and to increase efficiency. Contributing to marketing and development of the rail side of business. This was applicable to a number of projects including LUL- MRBCV Station Modernisation, Notting Hill Gate.

In the capacity of a D&C Engineer - Structures Framework Contract (SFC)/Buildings Framework Agreement (BFA), carrying out various Form A and Form B reviews covering minor repair, major repair and replacement of Railtrack bridge structures, under and over bridges, on the Non-West Coast Line. Design Lead/delivery of a combination of new platforms and extensions to existing as part of the SRA funded West Midland Passenger Capacity Enhancement Study. Also leading a team responsible for Assessment and Strengthening of numerous footbridges in the Midland Zone.

Leading a team of Engineers, carrying out assessment/revised strengthening of steel box girders forming the cross head beams-bents-supporting the Midland Link Viaducts at junction 6 of the M6 motorway (Spaghetti Junction) which was on a critical path as a part of a major resurfacing programme which was then fully underway. Other bridges including motorway overbridges, underbridges and Interchange bridges on the M6 and M42 motorways.

Carrying out a varied range of duties including feasibility study into enhancing the pedestrian access through the existing Sailors Trod UB-Underpass, Middlesbrough considering a gateway overbridge option and a live jacked underbridge box alternative; design of a jacked in place and in-situ reinforced concrete underbridge box structure for Watford Junction Dual Fast Platforms; and design of substructures plus review of manufacturer designed steel truss footbridges and underpinning of existing highway overbridges to lay tracks for the Sunderland-South Hylton Metro; assessment of numerous under and over bridges as part of the WCML and Bridge Guard 3 national contracts.

Held a range of building structures and bridge engineering and design roles within Borough and County Councils, consultancies and construction companies, in addition to undertaking University research and lecturing responsibilities in civil and structural engineering.
