Liaised between Sharjah recently created UPC Arabic speaking engineers and officials and CH2M, English speaking team, to forge a long-lasting and productive business relationship, via meetings, phone calls and E-mails. Also supported PM throughout contract drafting and amendments by explaining legal and technical connotations of Arabic text.
•Translated company regular communications for Arabic speaking staff in coordination with US team (MSA).
•Translated company press releases into Arabic.
•Translated company correspondence to authorities in UAE/Qatar/Iraq/Jordan/Egypt and KSA.
•Introduced CAT tools for the very first time in CH2M, and supported procurement process for Trados and Babylon licenses.
•Maintained project dedicated TMs and terminology bases.
•Conducted training on SDL Trados Studio to colleagues, and led upgrade to SDL Trados Studio 2014.
•Developed crystal clear guidelines for converting Arabic ref. numbers based on Hans Wehr Transliteration Scheme.
•Created “Translation Priorities” Document to streamline translation work process throughout MENAI region and define responsibilities of both requester (Project Number/Job Code and author/writer/SME clarification) and translator (timely fashioned delivery and cultural adaption of translated text).
•Designed assessments based on real workflow samples, tested & selected resources and vendors for projects as per agreed budget, and collected quotations for use of project managers, while recommending the most appropriate offer based on market rates, related experiences, and translator background.
•Provided updated instructions and clarifications to external translators (for huge word counts such as Etihad Museum project, where around 80k words were externally translated and reviewed by myself), while maintaining direct contact with CH2M SMEs from Dubai office. Despite project changing managers and points of contact, I was able to maintain quality level while considering cultural sensitivities and project national significance.
•Conducted localized terminological research & developed GCC localized glossaries for internal/external use.
•QAed translators' work in line with stakeholder instructions.
•Led translation & interpreting before and during Plan Maritime 2030 First Charette at Western Mangrove Hotel for AD UPC and Emirate-wide stakeholders (during a 1 month secondment to AD office, July 2014), while reporting directly to Project Director (David Connolly), and keeping contact with UPC Communication Lead. An effort that continued until final delivery under David’s general supervision while working remotely from Sharjah office.
•During my Ch2M time, I was able to build, maintain and capitalize on my business relationship with senior leads of BGs (e.g. WBG and TBG) of whatever background and hierarchy, from Mel Stewart, Adnan Hashmi, Adrian Manning, John Fleming and Andy Syms in UAE, to those based in Krakow, Riyadh, Denver and Gainesville offices (among many others), as representative for CDS team.
