Health Insurance Organization is the national health authority that provides health
insurance to the Egyptian population.
Job Description:
* Re-structure the legacy business intelligence system in the Health Insurance
Organization.
* Apply drug needs forecasts for each drug item to insure the sufficiency of stock amounts
in pharmacies to certain limit of time.
* Attend meetings with management level and transform business needs into analytical
deliverables.
* Apply SQL queries against transactional and OLAP databases to get required
information.
* Designating reports based on business needs.
* Suggest data collection methods and forms with other concerned departments.
* Demonstrate findings with clinical and managerial level.
Achievements
* Designed a fuzzy names matching system based on Oracle. The system matches
millions of beneficiaries’ names obtained from different sources through different times to
highlight duplications that are not exactly matching.
* Designed a reporting dashboard (at the headquarters location) that pulls Drugs usage
data from tens of distributed transactional Oracle databases in clinics and hospitals.
Analyzing the incentives given the clinics (health providers) against their revenues.
* Continually adapting the logic behind the reporting system to fulfill the varying business
needs.
* Trained employees on the developed software to get them familiar with its capabilities.
Family Health Fund (FHF) is the first governmental entity in Egypt that performs the concept
of separation of financing health services from its provision. FHF is the core administrative
body in the health reform process in Egypt, which aims to cover the whole population with a
quality health service.
Interpret results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via
statistical analysis to data mining.
* Develop algorithms for enhancing data manipulation, analysis, and predictability.
* Design, develop, implement and maintain business solutions.
* Work with business leaders to identify analytical requirements.

Responsibilities:
* Making ad-hoc reports beside developing, improving and adding permanent reports to
the existing applications.
* Make presentations about analysis results and conclusions.
* Sharing in the calculations for annual FHF's business planning.
* Technical support for accountants in MS Excel formulas and charting.
* Liaising with end-users and third party suppliers.
* Making presentation to demonstrate the results of analysis frequently.

Achievements:
* Invented a general technique for time series forecasting based on pattern matching that
is applied to drug consumption in clinics. (In my M.Sc. thesis and co-author of research
paper that won the best paper award in the 2013 International Conference of Data
Mining and Knowledge Engineering.) (See Publications section).
This technique represents an enhancement to time series forecasting with pattern
matching. It is applied to enhance the prediction of drug consumption of clinics and
consequently to optimize drug stock amounts in pharmacies. The technique is
competitive to other popular forecasting techniques like Exponential Smoothing, Moving
Average, and ARIMA and is more accurate in forecasting time series having very short
history.
* Worked closely with the European Commission Technical Assistance Team, ECTAT in
studying the health information situation in MoHP and HIO clinics and headquarters in
Alexandria. The study is published in the ECTAT publications. (See Publications
section).
* Represented the Family Health Fund in the meetings held with the staff of the British
Columbia (Canada) government in order to build the Analysis and Design phase of a
national Health Information System in Egypt.
* Applied various time series forecasting techniques to predict future drug consumption and
beneficiary utilization of the health service.
* Developed a drugs management system that: analyzes clinics' drug consumption and
drug stock of more than 200 drugs in about 100 clinics, predicts future drug usage by drug
item and by clinic -based on historical data- and determines the bottlenecks in drug stock
and suggests the best drug distribution plan among clinics in Alexandria.
* Developed many analysis oriented desktop applications for end-users using MS Access,
MS Excel and ADO to cover several aspects of the operation of the FHF such as:
organization's revenues registration and analysis, beneficiary management, annual
financial planning, monitoring and evaluation of clinics' performance using the KPI's put
by the authorities, analyzing the patients' satisfaction questionnaire, and many more
software for the FHF's activities.
* Implemented my profound knowledge in statistics and data analysis using VBA, TSQL,
ADO recordsets, Pivot tables and charts in analyzing large amounts of data pulled from
transactional databases to figure out data relations and trends.
* Detecting fraud in beneficiaries' utilization for the health service.
