I am currently working on a multi-million pound project in Polmadie building a new recycling plant for Glasgow. This has been a great chance to develop new skills and techniques specified for the job. Quality of work is top priority. I have gained good experience in a supervisory role as I can have up to five or six men working under my instruction which has been influential in my career progression. One of the main roles I take is to check my men’s work to ensure carried out to a high standard as specified by the client.
I worked for a large and well established company with operations throughout the United Kingdom. I was principally responsible for Reactive Maintenance, working in high pressure situations where sound, precise decision making is essential, ensuring all potential risks are understood and mitigated. I have thrived under this pressure and can react timely and confidently with corrective action if targets or deadlines are in jeopardy of not being met and for this reason I am often called upon if a building site project is running behind schedule. This is managed through optimum planning and organisational skills and taking ownership as I am the person in charge of most situations. I always ensure any given task is completed correctly, safely and to the required standards. I take great pride in my work and have received plaudits from my seniors and clients

Working with a range of recruitment agencies throughout Scotland was a valuable experience whereby I worked in various locations and covered a diverse range of contracts. I gained experience on domestic projects, working with the public through property maintenance to running my own project dealing with clients, architects, sub-contractors, building control and regulations and having a team acting on my command and instruction. The diversity during this period was fundamental to my wider appreciation of networking, relationship management and how to develop these key disciplines to progress and build up my reputation within the industry.

HF Electrical was a fantastic company to serve my time with as they are a substantial company who procure all types of electrical work. This gave me a wealth of opportunities to develop and learn my trade. During my comprehensive five years apprenticeship I was introduced to a broad spectrum of electrical tasks and was encouraged to be hands on to complement my academic training. I gained first-hand experience in construction site work, fire and security, the manufacture of control panels, carrying out full installations from start to finish on Local Government projects: schools, universities and hospital works. I also gained commercial experience actively involved in projects in restaurants, pubs and clubs. Working with all types of containment, wiring systems and testing procedures. Learning the principles of Health & Safety in relation to all aspects of the trade, including working in confined spaces and at height. HF took on work throughout the whole of the UK and their training of their apprentices is well respected within the industry. I am proud to say I was a straight “A” student throughout my 3 years at college and always received excellent reports.
