Providing a solid, responsive, proactively reliable Commercial link in the chain between the technical and procurement operatives at the Thermal Coal operations and those in the specialist category teams at the centre of Procurement & Contracts. During my term at Fluor I managed a number of projects and assumed responsibility for a number of project roles. Duties included contract and commercial management, managing construction claims, and close client liaison. Oil & gas, petrochemicals, diamond and gold mining.
Project Management duties included the full spectrum of activities encompassed by the construction and service contract disciplines, i.e. tendering, adjudications, risk identification and mitigation, negotiations, contract award and formulation, administration on site, claims management and final formal close-out of each contract. Providing commercial and contractual (legal) advice and support to project teams, tendering and frequent visits to remote construction sites, mainly in northern Angola (oil & gas projects in Malongo and Soyo bases in the Cabinda enclave) and brewery projects in Zambia.
Providing initial Project Management direction to the project in order to establish bidders’ lists, set up requests for tenders for the various identified packages, design and draft contract document formats incorporating claims mitigation and avoidance mechanisms and then hand over to the indigenous team and step back. Assisted in drafting the Procurement & Contracts section of the bid document for the EPCM of the Mozal Project, to be constructed by BHP Billiton. Identifying areas of potential involvement then meeting with team members to confirm my identified packages, drafting the framework documents for inclusion in the bid package and finally presenting to the BHPB bid adjudication team, after numerous dry-runs. Preparing bid proposal for Mozal aluminum smelter project.
