Support the development of Compliance Division as a repository of key governance policies and as point of reference with either internal parties or regulatory body for compliance related matters
Develop and implement initiatives to inculcate compliance awareness and appreciation in the Group via various approaches, e.g., issuance of newsletters, awareness bulletins, announcement in the intra/internet, involvement in training, etc.
Mitigate compliance risk via participation in reviews of procedures/manuals/papers proposed to Compliance Division
Propose measures to address weaknesses in policies and procedures that may have led to compliance risk events.
Conduct on-site reviews as and when requested, to provide Senior Management and Boards assurance on the state of compliance of a particular business unit
Implementation of meaningful, effective and timely compliance reporting requirements by coordinating, reviewing and analyzing consolidated compliance reports
Regulatory and Sales compliance support, guidance and advice to Business Functions in regard to regulatory changes and sales compliance process. Support the BU with regard to compliance issues as they arise.
Develop or update Compliance procedures and checklists for compliance review Assist in extracting monthly data in relating to the preparation of Monthly Sales Compliance Updates / Reports or as and when necessary.
Assist in developing and updating of Monthly Sales Compliance Updates (eg. Welcome Calls Updates, and Suitability reviews). Provide analysis and commentary on trend or pertinent compliance issues.
Delivery of compliance monitoring/review in accordance with the Annual Compliance Plan. Follow-up on compliance issues to ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented accordingly and track them to closure. Validate the corrective actions for adequacy and appropriateness prior to closure.
Conduct insurance product reviews based on Compliance perspective and approve the product prior to launch.
Conduct compliance audit on sales force in ensuring their sales processes and practices are compliant to company and regulators guideline.
Assist in delivering ad hoc reviews as maybe assigned from time to time. Assist in preparation of compliance reports to Audit Committee, Exco or PCA Compliance.
Work closely with Business Functions on compliance related matters Assist in liaising with Regulators, PCA Compliance with regards to regulatory examinations or Regional QA review.
Achievements:
Improved the company’s contactable Welcome Call rate from an average of 64% to 75% in 2013 due to constant Welcome Call compliance reviews and audit. Welcome Calls are essential to gauge customer’s satisfaction and ensuring the proper service was provided by the insurance agents towards the customers.
Spearhead the company’s first audit of the Insurance Agencies (Sales Team) within Malaysia in 2nd half of 2013. Audit activity is ongoing into 1st half of 2014.
Provided approvals during Prudential’s insurance product review. Insurance products now are more stringent and compliant to the ever-changing Regulators, Prudential Malaysia and Prudential Group (UK) requirements.
A subject matter expert in IBMs Compliance for I&C financial and operation processes.
Responsible for reviewing and updating I&C's work processes through Desk Procedures and Charts to ensure compliance with IBM's regulations and controls.
Provide advice and discuss with Incentives Manager, Team Leader or CFO on I&C's processes when required.
As a focal for IBM's Beijing Business Control Team for any compliance matters.
Conduct compliance education and advisory meeting with IBM's Business Unit First Line Manager/Second Line Managers.
Educate and inform I&C’s Financial Analysts and Manager on complying with IBM's regulations and controls such as ASCA Spreadsheet Certification, Business Conduct Guideline and SOX control points.
Ensure I&C's department work environment are compliant to IBM's regulations and controls. Regularly seek advice from IBM Asia Pacific Business Controls experts on how to improve work processes and ensuring better compliance and controls.
Conduct frequent compliance audit of I&C’s internal process and as an external reviewer of other business units within IBM Malaysia.
Achievements:
In 2008, successfully transfer I&C team (except Compliance and Manager function) work portfolio from Malaysia to Beijing team. This in tandem with IBM Global cost reduction activity.
In 2009, I&C department recorded a clean Compliance Audit with zero Control and Process defects. This was achievable due to rigorous review of I&C Desk Procedures in ensuring compliance with IBM Regulations and SOX.
From 2010 to 2012, assigned to IBM Thailand I&C team in designing their I&C work processes and compliance structure. This is to achieve a similar I&C structure with Malaysia and other ASEAN countries. The project was successfully completed in 2012.
Responsible in managing the BOM (Bill Of Material) of various PROTON models such as Waja and Savvy. Involved heavily in Cost Reduction activities of PROTON cars.
Handle negotiations with vendors/suppliers regarding cost reduction opportunities, price negotiations and process re-engineering cost.
Conduct compliance audit on vendors’ factories with regards of their process flow, labor cost, cycle times, machining cost (tooling and amortization) and inventories (current/obsolete).
Assist Cost Control team in handling claim issues from Vendors.
Achievements:
Heavily involved in cost reduction activity for Proton Savvy’s interior portion. Subsequently, a lower cost, aptly known as Savvy Lite was launched in the market in 2007 with a lower On-The-Road price by 20%.
