My main responsibility is to lead a team in research and development in science and engineering systems and processes. The work requires me to:
- Investigate the behaviour of diverse science and engineering fields.
- Manage people of different background working on multi-disciplinary tasks.
- Administer funds so that it is utilized efficiently and within the allocated budget.
- Lead meetings and seminars with industrial partners and educational institutions.

My main research involves controlling the finite element analysis codes, to perform complex numerical calculations in plasticity and creep, for structures subjected to cyclic thermo-mechanical loads. This work, which contributed to my thesis, formed part of the design and life assessment procedures for the high temperature response of structures, which is used by British Energy in the UK. Other duties include teaching tutorials to undergraduate students and conduct meetings cum discussion sessions with British Energy.
My work involved researching into the deformation of rough surfaced materials, used in the design and fabrication of seals. This work, which received the best project prize from IMechE, was done in relation to the environmental concerns towards the security of transporting toxic and radioactive materials.
