Reporting direct to the Group CFO, my responsibilities within the Corporate Finance (CF) department entail:
- Monthly financial reporting and supervision of overall accounting matters.
- Coordinating annual statutory audits as the principal point-of-contact, with responsibility to conclude on critical & technical issues before finalization of Financial Statements.
- Overall supervision of direct and indirect taxation matters, including tax planning.
- Thorough review of annual income tax returns of all Group Companies, pre-submission.
- Issuing regular updates to the concerned departments/ functions vis-à-vis changes to the Tax Statute, followed by discussion sessions.
- Ongoing liaison with the in-house legal and corporate secretarial department.
- Daily oversight of the payables and payments functions.
- Concluding advices on new business ventures focusing over tax implications and legal-cum-corporate matters, with the outsourced consultants on-board.
- Suggesting cost-cutting measures vis-a'-vis few business feasibilities developed by the Management.
Besides the above;
- Streamlined the monthly closing process, by redefining deadlines for various modules in the ERP.
- Formulated and finalized chart of accounts in respect of the under-implementation 'SAP S/4HANA'.
- Successfully coordinated/ finalized with a Credit Rating Company vis-a’-vis the entity rating assignment for three major companies at the Group.
- Played a lead role in incorporating an E-commerce entity outside Pakistan.
- Reporting to the CEO, the role required liaison with banks for financing (trade and working capital) and with external regulatory authorities.
- Evaluated/ finalized ‘SAP B1’ as the best-fit ERP solution for the Company, followed by formulation/finalization of chart of accounts therefor.
- Secured green-filed industry status from the concerned revenue authority, enabling duty-cum-tax free imports of Plant & Machinery.
- Besides, headed finance & accounts section of the Company's sister concern engaged in business of decorative paints.
- Direct reporting to Group CFO.
- Completed a Special assignment involving JV agreements with foreign principals for new project in Auto sector, its business plan, and completion of foreign capital inflow for the said project.
- Streamlined departmental workflows, and worked with IT Consultant to optimize utilization of systems in place.
- Performed a special operational audit for an Associated Company; highlighting deficiencies within work practices, unaccounted wastages, and inefficient utilization of their ERP system.
- Prepared proposals for federal budget (specific to auto-sector) for onward submission to PAMA; being a document first of its kind at the Group.
I). CFO for CSAPL’s subsidiary company engaged in steel billets business:
- Effectively dealt with banks for financing arrangements including project financing.
- Successfully handled challenges vis-à-vis working capital shortages.
- Delivered monthly financial/performance reporting and presentations to the Group CEO and the Group CFO.
- Close coordination with the Supply Chain function.
- Involvement in complete implementation of Oracle ERP (E-Business Suite R12), including successful migration of legacy data.
- Established Provident Fund for employees, formulated Trust Deed/ Rules, and got registered with Authorities.
- Ongoing association with tax consultant, legal counsel, and external auditors.
II) Company Secretary at Group-level:
Rigorous handling of statutory compliances for listed holding company and its unlisted subsidiaries, including timely Board meetings and circulation of minutes.
III). Past engagements as Manager Accounts at CSAPL:
- Budgeting & Corporate Strategy formulation.
- Handled taxation matters, including tax planning.
- Revamping of organizational operating manuals, in collaboration with an external Consulting Firm.
- Additionally, served as Secretary to the Audit Committee of Board of Directors. Developed an internal audit dashboard for effective follow up over open-items, while maintaining complete liaison with internal auditors.
- The position required reporting to the Partner involving tasks namely clients’ representation before taxation authorities vis-à-vis tax compliance/ regulatory issues including return of income.
- Additional tasks included advisory assignments for clients, performing due diligence assignments, and active participation in the Firm’s tax publication work.
Managed credit rating assignments in respect of commercial banks and insurance companies, involving extensive financial analyses.
January 2001-2005 :
Completed the four-year mandatory on-the-job training in January 2005, under bye-laws of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP).
February 2005 to April 2007:
Served as an Audit Supervisor under immediate employment with KPMG from February 2005 to April 2007.
Fellow member of the ICAP since May 2022. Was admitted as an Associate member during September 2009.
First division marks achieved.
