Adam Smith International is a global advisory company who transform businesses to make economies stronger, societies more stable and governments more effective. Promoted to Regional Manager with oversight of Afghanistan, Middle East and North African (MENA) region to provide support to projects funded by the FCO, USAID, EU, DFID & IsDB.
Conducted regular strategic expenditure reviews of the countries in the region to ensure compliance with rules, regulations and policies. Identified ineffective areas, which led to a 40% reduction of costs in FY 2016/17.
Served as focal point for external and internal audits for all projects and countries in MENA region, with ownership over internal audit processes of financial systems, continuous improvement works and control mechanisms reviews.
Served as Regional Compliance Champion and due diligence coordinator overseeing all compliance matters in the region.
Cascaded company policies to improve financial management, compliance and operational efficiency.
Prepared annual budgets for the MENA region and supported Project Managers, business cases and project proposals to ensure appropriate and efficient allocations.
Produced the Monthly Cash Forecast for the MENA region and Project Forecasts.
Analysed expenditure in each country to align spend to smart cost plans, and reviewed monthly accounts to improve the accuracy of transaction reporting.
Analysed variances between functional and local currencies, tracked changes between exchange rate and took measures to reduce exposure to foreign exchange losses.
Maintained updated fixed asset registers for all projects, corporate assets and inventories.
Governed the Risk Management Mechanism, with periodic reviews to localised regulatory changes, donor requirements and internal policies; maintained the Risk & Issues register for each country along with associated mitigation work.
Supported the teams in production of Technical Assistant Reports for clients, identifying potential areas to support national governments on public financial management strengthening initiatives.
Backstopped the team to apply Lessons Learned from Syria programmes to identify fiduciary risks and implement new controls across the region.
Oversaw the financial management of the ‘Tamkeen’ a Support to Emerging Local Governance Structures in Syria (DFID, EU Funded), and ‘Taallum’, a Governance through Education programme in Syria (DFID Funded).
Developed and refined financial management and procurement processes, including the costing norms for basic services for programmes and adoption by local councils as part of a strategic capacity building for public service delivery programme
