Command and Control Computer Communications Intelligence (C4I) Network Engineer
• Provide senior level expertise to analyze and make recommendations to improve and secure the existing network.
• Initiate and manage many projects to improve and secure the administrative network (C4I LAN/WAN).
• Develop training course for the Command Communication and Control (C3) School in IT security (from the CISSP material), and IT networking.
• Provide on job training (OJT) and in class environment for officers, engineers and technician. Develop training material, books, and PowerPoint Presentations.
• Provide senior level support with all network related problems in a Windows 2000/Active Directory environment running on a Cisco-based RSAF C4I LAN/WAN.
• Assist in LAN support for School of Computer Base Instruction (CBI) network.

Job Functions

RS Information Systems, Inc. (RSIS) McLean, VA. Working at the Social Security Administration (SSA) contract providing 3rd level support to field offices, including but not limited to: NT 4 managed member servers and backup domain controllers, Windows 2000 managed member servers, and Windows 2003 managed member servers (including Active-Directory-related administration and troubleshooting).
• Troubleshooting included but not limited to hardware, operating system, application, LAN/WAN connectivity, group policy, client server issues, and tape backup problems.
• Troubleshooting activities often require employee to walk non-technical staff remotely through highly technical troubleshooting activities.
• Responsible for carrying the team pager on a rotating basis and responding to 3rd-level support issues as needed on a 24/7 basis including disaster recovery activities.
• Responsible for documenting procedures and solutions to recurring problems and for knowledge transfer to team members, training of new employees, and general process improvement activities.
Assigned to manage the LAN/WAN Telecommunication of DOE/OCRWM (Department Of Energy / Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management) project, which consists of both Novell and NT environments in Washington, DC. I managed four network engineers (senior network engineer, senior network administrator, junior network administrator, and junior telecommunication engineer) and one senior security engineer / analyst. As the network and operation manager, I handled technical management duties, monitored projects progress, assigned technical duties and responsibilities, and wrote reports for senior managements. In addition, I reviewed weekly and monthly reports before delivery to the client.
Responsibilities:
· Maintained 98 percent of uptime on all mission critical systems including WAN (Wide Area Network) links, LAN (Local Area Network) equipment, NT and Novell servers, Web servers, phone system, network security, Internet connectivity, Internet mail, connectivity with other mission critical servers at remote sites such as DOE-HQ and DOE Las Vegas, and VPN concentrator and remote clients / VPN clients).
· Prepare the annual Telecommunication and Operation budget and serving on technical committees and working groups. Serving as technical consulting expert for RSIS Headquarters and other government contracts.
· Design, implement and maintain a Virtual Private Network (VPN) solution for remote users and remote sites using Check-Point VPN-1 2000, CISCO 3000 concentrator, and Citrix solution.
· Maintain the documentation of all networks and communication equipment.
· Maintain, support and monitor the DNS (Domain Name Service) server and DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server.
· Maintain CISCO routers and switches 2500, 7000, 5000, and 2900 series including installation, configurations, upgrade IOS (Interconnecting Operating System), problem resolution, upgrades, rules and policies, access control list, and change configurations as need demands.
Managed Novell Intra-NetWare 4.11 LAN/WAN with NT 4.0 workstations and mixed client environment. In addition, managed eight Network specialists and engineers, four senior network engineers / administrators, and four junior network administrators.
· Assigned tasks and followed up on duties and responsibilities.
· Wrote staff progress reports, created monthly support schedule, singed leave slips, solved personal issues, reviewed reports and proposals written by staff, and monitored staff progress and scheduled training classes.
· Developed and tested project’s plans.
· Worked with engineers to develop a plan for migrating users to Group Wise mail version 5.5.
· Developed and tested plan to migrate Novell 3.12 servers to Novell Intra NetWare 4.11
· Involved in the design and implementation process of the wide area network for the Department of Juvenile Justice forty six offices statewide.
· Responsible for all network management, administration, security, e-mail, domains post-offices in GroupWise, and problems resolutions.
· Responsible for backup, monitoring, and managing servers on the WAN using Manage Wise, HP Open View, and remote assistant cards.
· Installed and configured servers on the LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network).
· Performed troubleshooting and resolved frame relay communication problems, CISCO routers configurations, and resolved network and communication problems.
· Supported help-desk staff and technicians.
