Transco is responsible for the development, operations, and maintenance of high-voltage power and bulk water transmission networks within Abu Dhabi and beyond, as a water instrument engineer I:
• Lead and manage the day-to-day preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities of control systems PCS7 and ABB 800xA DCS, field instruments, and water quality analyzers.
• Develop and improve predictive and preventive maintenance plans, prepare major maintenance strategies, method statements, and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Diagnose, analyze, and carry out root cause failure analysis; develop recovery strategies for the implementation of upgrades and modifications to improve reliability.
• Develop safety protocols, participate in incident investigations, process hazard analysis, and safety inspections, and ensure compliance with HSEQ policies.
• Review requirements for materials, spare parts, and obsolete items; coordinate and follow up on new material orders; and create new proposals for stocking spares to ensure alignment with departmental budgets.
• Analyze strengths and weaknesses and develop innovative solutions to enhance the reliability and efficiency of all equipment and systems.
• Support capital (CAPEX) projects by reviewing designs, conducting Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), as well as commissioning SCADA, PLCs, and instrumentation.

The role involved working in Hassayn clean coal power plant composed of 4 units GE/Alstom 600 MW each a control and instrumentation team consisting of 10 technicians to maintain the plant and ensure availability.
• Diagnosed and maintained boiler and steam turbine control systems (Siemens S7 PLC, ABB Symphony plus DCS, GE Mark vie, Bently Nevada), reducing downtime through proactive troubleshooting and comprehensive maintenance strategies.
• Executed calibration, configuration, and repair for control instruments, ensuring optimal performance for flow, level, pressure, temperature, pH, vibration sensors, and hydraulic control valves.
• Maintained process analyzers (O2, silica, CEMS, pH, conductivity, etc.), completing all preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration procedures with a focus on minimizing disruptions.
• Updated and maintained documentation and logs that record performance, problems, repairs, calibrations, tests, checks, etc.
• Prepared material specifications, and PR for spares and consumables based on budget.

Assigned to the El Gaili 1&2 power plant, has a total capacity of 440 MW with eight GE frame 6B gas turbines and four steam turbines. my accomplishments are:
• Supervise the installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and modification activities of instrumentation, analyzers, control valves, ESD, CCTV, and control systems (ABB Freelance DCS, Siemens S7 PLCs, GE MARK 5 & 6), ensuring uninterrupted plant operations and high uptime rates.
• Identify major maintenance job scope, lead major shutdown activities, and ensure the timely and efficient execution of all maintenance tasks, modifications, and upgrade projects.
• Provide technical input for expansion projects and participate in HAZOP and SIL studies to ensure that instrumentation system deficiencies are addressed in the project stage.
• Provide technical inputs to various upgrade and obsolescence issues, control, and authorize the implementation of system modifications in the automation systems.
• Lead root cause analysis for bad actors and recommend improvement actions to ensure plant availability and reliability.
• Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure spare parts are purchased as per specifications, and conduct technical evaluations of purchased items.
• Train and develop assigned junior engineers on relevant skills, prepare training material, and conduct on-the-job training (OJT).
• Support the institution of an HSE culture and ensure compliance with relevant HSE policies, procedures, systems, controls, applicable legislation, and sustainability guidelines. Projects and Achievements:
• Completed Hot Gas Path Inspections (HGPI) and major overhaul maintenance of gas and steam turbines, Balance of Plant (BOP), HRSG, and water treatment plants.
• Commissioned Turbine Supervisory Instrumentation (TSI), tested, verified, and installed vibration sensors, and configured the Bently Nevada 3500 system.
• Optimized steam turbine performance by fine-tuning the PID parameters of the steam turbine Woodward 505 governor controller and positioner, resulting in increased turbine power output.
• Modified PLC (Siemens S400) program to operate the water treatment plant waste pumps in remote and auto mode, and designed the graphics on the WINCC HMI.
• Analyzed the failure of DCS system AC800FR controllers and IO modules, prepared the justification study, developed technical specification documents for upgrading the system, and evaluated the bidders technical submittals.
• Participated in the plant disaster recovery committee to investigate the root cause analysis of the plant flooding due to high rainfall, and led the I&C team to successfully recover and restart the plant.
• Designed training programs for junior engineers and college students, delivering hands-on training and building training kits, enhancing their skills and knowledge.
