My key responsibilities:
• Analyse various types of precious metals and base metal samples with accuracy and precision, ensure that the work is performed at minimum cost by making efficient use of my time, the equipment and materials as well as meeting with customer delivery times. Maintaining a good working relationship with other departments with good verbal and written communication.
• Maintain equipment and facilities in good working order, maintain operation safety in all activities in line with the Health & Safety codes of practice and attend training courses for personal development, as well as upholding the integrity of the company by following defined quality procedures to UKAS ISO:17025 standards, general housekeeping and adhere to the security measures to be taken in relation to valuables within the department.
• As a Shift worker, this entails working out of hours (Early Mornings, Evenings and Weekends) and on my own. Problem-solving when instrument/equipment breakdowns occur and making effective decisions.
• Trained in the operation, basic maintenance/optimisation and software use for the following instruments within the department: AAS, MP-AES, ICP-OES, ICP-MS and XRF. Reporting of samples on LIMS.
• I am currently undergoing training on the operation of the NexION 300D within the ICP-MS department, developing methods within ICP and interpreting data on Omnian Scans in XRF.
• I have been involved in working alongside the CI/Lean Management Team on site when I was given the role of 5S/Lean Champion in 2013 which has allowed me to work with my team to make quite a lot of improvements within the department as well as share ideas and this has given me the opportunity to effectively manage/delegate my Team to bring our department to the companies 5S/Good housekeeping standards as well as set up Daily Audits sheets to help maintain those standards.
• I attended a Lean Foundation Course in house in 2014 to further my knowledge and understanding of the key Lean concepts and how these could be applied within our department. My Lean skills have also given me the opportunity to work with CI Engineers to understand the Manufacturing Excellence concepts that have been implemented within our department by Senior Management and it has given me the ability to further build on some leadership skills as well as my team working skills when SPQDC (Safety, People, Quality, Delivery and Cost) was introduced as the role entails me to keep track of the data we are recording, update when necessary and taking morning start-up meetings daily when I’m on Shift.

12 week full time chemistry research group paid summer placement. The work mainly focused on photocatalysis research. The research involved preparing standard TiO2 water, acetone, ethyl acetate and ethanol based Inks containing Methylene Blue (cationic) dye and films from these inks. The films were then bleached under UVA, UVB and UVC light to see if the inks could be activated when exposed to any three of the UV light sources and the time it takes for the films to recover to there original blue colour. I did further research by carrying out the same experiments using different semiconductors when preparing the inks.

12 week full time chemistry research group paid summer placement with Professor Andrew Mills (Head of Physical Chemistry) research group. The work mainly focused on photocatalysis research. The research involved looking at the adsorptions of cationic and anionic dyes onto TiO2 paste films under alkaline and acidic conditions. I did further research on two main dyes Methylene Blue (cationic) and Acid Orange 7 (anionic) to see the effect time and concentration has on the amount of dye absorbing on to the TiO2 paste films as well as the degradation of dye under UVA light for particular concentrations. I had to submit a report to Professor Andrew Mills on the work carried out from which a scientific publication has been published.

Ittehad Chemicals Limited, Kala Shah Kaku (Pakistan) 17.07.07 - 27.08.07
A 6 week Chemical Engineering/Chemistry Internship - During my stay in the organisation I was trained to understand the actual working and operational processes of various Caustic Soda Manufacturing Plants. I took keen interest in the flow of work between various departments and degree disciplines. During the last 2 weeks I worked with the company's chemists in their laboratories and saw a lot of analysis and measurement chemistry being carried out. I had to submit a report on how the company manufactured caustic soda to the general manager of the human resource department.

B&Q, East Kilbride - Showroom Administrator (P/T) 08/2006 - 06/2007
My duties and responsibilities included: Handling all types of customer enquiries, complaint handling, having excellent customer service & communication skills, the ability to work well individually as well as in a team, covering a wide range of admin duties.

Voluntary Work: 3rd & 4th Year - Was a member of the RAG club within the university and attended charity weekends to help raise money for various charity organisations. I was also a Student Representative Council member for the Faculty of Science and attended meetings throughout the year to debate and discuss issues arising within the university and the student union.

2nd year - Was invited to a 3 day course in February 2007 to assist new university prospects and offer in depth information and knowledge of their course choice. I felt privileged as only a handful of students had been selected for this purpose.
