Responsibilities as a Boxing Coach at Nasser’s Junior Boxing Academy
Nasser’s Junior Boxing Academy (based in Uganda) focuses on youth development, keeping children off the streets, building discipline, and channeling energy positively through boxing. As a coach there, your role combines technical training, mentorship, safety, and character development for junior (youth) athletes.
Core Responsibilities
• Technical Training: Teach proper boxing fundamentals — stance, footwork, punching techniques (jab, cross, hook, uppercut), combinations, defense (slips, blocks, parries), and sparring skills. Tailor sessions to different age groups and skill levels.
• Conditioning & Fitness: Lead warm-ups, strength & conditioning drills, jump rope, shadow boxing, bag work, and endurance exercises to build speed, power, stamina, and overall athleticism.
• Safety & Injury Prevention: Enforce strict safety rules, ensure proper use of gear (gloves, headguards, mouthguards), monitor sparring intensity, and teach safe training practices. Recognize signs of fatigue or injury.
• Mentorship & Discipline: Serve as a role model, instill values like respect, discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Support academic and personal development alongside boxing.
• Session Planning: Design age-appropriate training programs, track progress, and prepare athletes for competitions (amateur bouts or exhibitions).
• Group & Individual Coaching: Manage group classes and provide one-on-one attention for talent development.
• Academy Support: Help with academy operations — equipment maintenance, attendance records, parent communication, event organization, and promoting the academy’s mission.
• Competition Preparation: Corner fighters during bouts, analyze opponents, develop game plans, and motivate athletes.
Additional Expectations
• Work with children and teens (often from challenging backgrounds) — patience, positivity, and strong communication are essential.
• Maintain a clean, safe training environment.
• Possibly assist with recruitment or community outreach.
• Stay updated on boxing rules and coaching best practices.
