Special Communication Organization 2005- 2009
A public sector communication organization providing commercial PSTN, GSM CDMA and Data communication services to general public in difficult and financially unviable areas of Pakistan. I contributed in various IT related projects during my stay at the organization.
PSTN, GSM Billing.
• Managed and handled both Postpaid Billing for both PSTN and GSM.
• Identified and plugged in the revenue leakages thereby increasing revenue by over 9%.
• Fine tuned the mediation server as well as Database to reduce overall processing time by 35% thereby using the old system beyond it life.
• Repaired a 54 Node Cisco based CDR collection Network, without involving any external support. Over 50% of network was down when I joined the organization.
• Finalized the SRS of new billing system.
• Managed a new Customer Care and Billing Systems project for SCO starting from SRS through its deployment till data migration and Provisional Acceptance Tests.
• Right Sized the Billing Section through fine tuning the processes. Approx 25% of manpower was reduced after the implementation of the tuned processes.
• Integrated the new deployed GSM network into the existing billing system to offer convergent billing for the first time in SCO.
• Design and deployment of new packages to keep the customer base alive after the deregulation in the area had been announced.
• Managed the deployment of Intelligent Network for PSTN user.
IT Operations/Support
• Design, deployment and operations of infrastructure to provide secure Email, web, project management and web to SMS services on Intranet as well as Internet, using open source technologies. Firewall and Reverse proxy were employed in rather a bullet proof manner. Existing computing resources were utilized thus saving Millions to the organization.
• Established National as well as International SMS Interconnects over IPSEC VPNs using SMPP.
• Developed and Deployed a bulk SMS facility and limited SMS based content services for the organization using open source SMS gateway. The task saved approx 7 Million Rupees to the organization.
• Operation, maintenance and System Administration duties of Billing System and Intranet Servers running on HP-UX 11i and RHEL - 4 AS, RHEL-5.
• Database Administration activities, such ad performance tuning, backup/restore and recovery of Oracle OLTP Databases.
Data Networks.
• Complete design and deployment of a Cisco based 54 nodes network to support online billing data and to provide Intranet services.
• Envisioning, Planning, Designing and Implementation of a Cisco based IP/MPLS Network to pave the roadmap for deployment of NGN. Guided and supervised the project through preparation of RFP, evaluation of bids, signing of contract, high level and low level design phases and the deployment of the network.
Ministry of Defence 2004 - 2005
Resource Management
• Performed various resource management duties including Human Resource management, telecomm resource management and IP network management.
• Operations and maintenance of Ericsson's MD-110 switch. During the phase major upgrade and maintenance operations were performed.
Deployment of Cisco Based IP Network
• Deployed a WAN based on Cisco routers over low bandwidth links on Satellite links.
• The nodes were deployed in snow covered areas and provided an assured mode of data communication in all weathers.
NLC Communication Project 2002 - 2004
Project Officer
• Contributed in deployment of a country wide data network based on Nortel Network's Passport Switches.
• Design and implementation of a security architecture for protect sensitive information assets even on private network.
System/Network Administrator
• Deployed Samba based windows domain for the organization.
• Deployment of Linux firewall to provide perimeter security while still providing Internet access to the users.
• System Administration to include deployment of Internet service on Solaris platform to serve all users within Pakistan Army
