Canada Limited, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Currently working as Senior Environmental Engineer with AECOM in the Edmonton office. My responsibilities include preparing proposals, civil design of remediation works, landfill design, landfill airspace modeling, bid and contract documents, construction oversight of landfills, QA/QC of landfill lining systems, technical reports, stormwater management facility designs and environmental audits. Preparation of regulatory applications and liaison with regulatory bodies is included in my duties. The following text provides a brief description of my AECOM experience.
•The City of Calgary, Spyhill landfill, Stage III Phases 5 and 6 development, Calgary, Alberta: Completed design of Phases 5 and 6. Oversaw slope stability analysis.
•The City of Calgary, Spyhill landfill, Stage I Closure, Calgary, Alberta: Oversaw completion of geotechnical modeling of synthetic cap for the utility pad that would receive six axle tanker trucks. Completed a synthetic barrier layer material evaluation to select the most suitable alternative. Designed water drainage system located over the synthetic barrier layer. Oversaw the design of landfill gas venting system below the cap. Prepared a final grading plan for the utility pad.
•Pembina Pipepline Corporation, Redwater, Alberta: Designed leak detection system for the double lined brine Pond # 5. Prepared specifications for the double containment and leak detection systems.
•Drumheller & District Regional Landfill, Drumheller, Alberta: Completed design and development plan for the landfill. Prepared EPEA Approval renewal application.
Mainly worked on projects pertaining to Maryland state highway administration and the county governments. My responsibilities included:
•Design and resurfacing of roadways.
•Design of storm water management systems.
•Storm drain design.
•Design of erosion/sediment control systems.
•Environmental permitting.
•Developing specifications and contract document.
My thesis was focused on understanding the binding and availability of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Manufactured Gas Plant site sediments to facilitate site specific risk assessment. The research involved measurement of site-specific partition coefficients of PAHs at several sites along Hudson River and investigating whether differences in measured partition coefficients can be explained based on differences in PAH association with organic particle types in sediments. This research was completed in collaboration with the RETEC group and the University of North Dakota. I am well versed in the following aspects of research:
•GC-MS analysis of PAHs.
•Data analysis and interpretation.
•PAH risk assessment.
•PAH binding mechanisms and aqueous partitioning.
•PAH clean-up for injection in GC-MS.
•Technical report writing.
•Particle scale analysis.
Worked with BAK Consulting Engineers on Malakand-III Hydro-Power Project, Pakistan. This project involved the construction of a Hydro-Power plant. Irrigation water was collected from a higher elevation and channeled through hills via channels, tunnels, aqueducts and super passages to a forebay. Water from the forebay was directed onto the turbines using penstocks. I was responsible for redesigning of cascade spillway used to dispose off excess water to the irrigation channels downstream. Completed the following tasks:
•Structural design of cascade spillway.
•Access road design.
•Design of open rectangular channels.
•Planning and design of residential buildings.
•Design of foot bridges.
•Design of retaining walls.
•Quantity estimation.
Worked with ECIL, Pakistan as a Site Engineer in Primary Education Program. This project involved new construction and rehabilitation of existing multi-story school buildings. Performed the following duties:
•Building layouts
•Quality control/Quality assurance
•Quantity surveying
•Tube wells
•Progress monitoring report
•Bill of quantities.
Prepared design plan for the decommissioning and remediation of chemical pond,
Assisted Petro-Canada in preparation of closure plan in
in the Edmonton office. My responsibilities included preparing proposals, civil design of remediation works, landfill design, landfill airspace modeling, bid and contract documents, construction oversight of remediation works and landfills, QA/QC of landfill lining systems, technical reports and stormwater management facility designs. Preparation of regulatory applications and liaison with regulatory bodies was included in my duties. Various aspects of my experience are summarized in the following text:
•Rocky Mountain Regional Solid Waste Authority, Rocky Mountain Regional Landfill, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta Area “A” Landfill Expansion Completed design, tender documents and construction oversight, 2013.
Redwater, Alberta: Designed and supervised construction of groundwater interception trench systems including contract documents for five produced water contaminated sites.
•Northern Village of La Loche, Saskatchewan: Completed design of the new 25 year landfill in 2011.
•Howe Sound Pulp & Paper, Port Mellon, BC: Completed liner CQA for cell 2B construction in 2011.
•Responsible for management and maintenance of Trimble GPS equipment of the
AMEC E & I Edmonton unit including data upload/download and differential correction.
•AlPac Pulp Mill, near Athabasca, Alberta: Completed design and construction supervision of the industrial waste landfill - cell 2B and QA/QC program for the rehabilitation of compacted clay liner at the spill pond. Completed airspace modeling of the existing operating industrial waste landfill cells in 2010 and 2011.
•Imperial Oil Limited, Calgary Airport Terminal: Managed drilling program and completed secondary containment liner evaluation at the IOL jet fuel storage facility in 2010.
•Rocky Mountain Regional Solid Waste Authority, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta: Prepared preliminary design of the landfill expansion plan including landfill modeling and assisted the project manager in preparing regulatory application. Completed airspace modeling for Pit 3 in 2011.
