Key Responsibilities:
• Assessment of the Infection control situation and water sanitation essential requirements.
• Identification and definition of the role of the medical, the logistic and watsan staff on the field to implement and respect infection control procedures
• Training and coaching of different actors to use and respect updated infection control measures in the care wards (OT, delivery room, wards, ...) and supportive services
• Training and coaching of the OT staff especially the OT nurse to achieve a better operation department management
• Improve the management of the Biomedical equipment
• Identification of contact person(s) for post intervention follow up
Specific Tasks Performed
• Assessment of the Infection control situation (flows, infrastructure, adherence to the infection control measures) and water sanitation essential requirements in the OPDs, IPDs, ER, OT, Sterilization, Delivery Room Etc.
• Elaboration and regular up gradation of an Infection Control action plan
• Direct supervision, human resource management and training of the Cleaners and sterilization team.
• Training and coaching of staff nurses, doctors, OT nurses, logisticians, cleaners, Health Promoters, waste manager and supervisors to implement, respect and maintain infection control
• Set up of the auxiliary services including infrastructure advice, IC procedures implementation, setup of Laundry, Sterilization, dressing rooms, and new OT plan
• Set up of Isolation rooms in existing wards and setup of new wards
• OT department set up / implementation of infection control measures
Adequate patient management (before, during and after surgery)
OT dress code and scrub
• Quality checks of the material related to IC i.e. scrubs, linen, hygiene material, buckets, etc.
Challenges Overcame
• Tackled Neonatal Unit outbreak which increased Neonatal mortality by implemented infection control emergency preparedness plan
• Implementation and modification of the uniforms according to IC Standards
Key Achievements:
• Monthly trainings of more than 300 nurses, doctors and other paramedical staff
• Set up of isolation wards for dengue, Measles and cholera
• Setup of Sterilization Units in two new hospitals
• Formation of Infection Control Committees in Three Hospitals around the country
• Creation of IC Action plan for the entire hospital and quarterly revision
• Development of multiple Infection control auditing tools which are now used in MSF projects around the world (using CDC Guidelines)
• Vaccination for more than 300 Hospital staff including doctors, nurses, cleaners, supervisors and transporters
• Collection, maintenance and dissemination of infection control data
• Formulation and implementation of vector control strategy in the hospital
• Revision of job description for Cleaners and Sterilization technicians
• Participation in the annual review of operations for the hospital (related to IC)
• Control and supply of hygiene material to entire hospitals
Initial assessment of patient
-Reception, guidance of patient and accompanying person and introduction
-Perform initial assessment of patients, particularly those in the resuscitation room under guidance of the nurse supervisor and ER doctor or secondary assessment for ambulance setting
Patient care and treatment, emergency rooms and ambulance
-Initiate emergency treatment measures (including resuscitation/CPR) if needed in accordance with level of knowledge and experience under supervision of nurse supervisor and ER doctor
-Perform necessary procedures (e.g. IV cannulation, NGT insertion, urinary catheterisation) in accordance with skill and experience
-Administer medications and other necessary treatment in accordance with instructions of ER doctor and document all treatment given
-Regularly review patients whilst they are under care, repeating vital signs as needed and adjusting treatment if necessary under guidance of ER doctor
-Request special investigations as indicated or directed by the ER doctor (e.g. blood tests, x-rays etc.) and follow-up the results
-Prepare patients for admission or transfer completing all necessary documentation and liaising with OT ward, IPD and ambulance staff as required
Management of materials, consumables, treatment area including ambulance
-Ensure sufficient stock of all necessary materials is available in the treatment area and regularly re-arrange materials in preparation for patient arrival
-Supervise the collection of material to be sterilised
-Strict management of material and minor medical-surgical supplies and consumables
-Contributing to proper management of stocks and renewing orders
Reporting and networking
-Ensure information is handed over to the next nursing shift
-Communicate regularly with nurse supervisor, and ER doctor about patient status and treatment
Service Assessment and Development
-Taking part in and contributing towards training and internal evaluations and making an ongoing effort to maintain and update medical knowledge and skills
Responsible to provide total nursing care to patients, involving planning, administering and evaluation of the nursing care.
Administration of all treatments and medications, maintenance of complete and accurate records of nursing assessments and nursing care.
-Responsible for total patient care, including medication, orders and treatments
-Assists the physicians in performing special procedures.
-Close monitoring of cardiac and physical status of patient.
-Assists in emergency nursing procedures necessary for prompt control of changes in patient’s physical condition.
-Perform the techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation accurately and effectively.
-Keeps abreast of changing techniques in critical care nursing and maintains a high level of expertise in critical care.
-Accepts responsibilities delegated by the direct supervisor and evaluates the
nursing care provided in the area assigned.
-Provision of leadership in the interpretation and application of the philosophy and objective of nursing service in assigned area.
-As a team leader, directs and develops the abilities and skills of staff assigned to her jurisdiction, and makes team assignments based upon individual patient need.
-Maintains the patient’s clinical records; assists with execution of the physician’s orders;keeps accurate problem oriented nurses notes according to audit committee standards.
-Assists the physician with procedures and treatments. Administers treatments including sterile procedures.
-Participates in team conferences with team leader and makes up team assignments.
-Guides personnel in evaluating patient needs.
-Performs patient care within the principles of Team Nursing, reporting pertinent observations or complaints to the team leader and/or Head Nurse.
-Administration of medications according to hospital policy.
-Practice economical use of equipment and supplies, informs proper authority of discrepancies.
-Attending and supporting in-service Education Programs.
-Participates in or initiates CPR and Codes when necessary.
Disaster Management is 2 years Master degree program after 14 years of education comprises of DRR
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
