Key Responsibilities:

• Identification and definition of the role of the medical, the logistic and watsan staff on the field to implement and respect infection control procedures
• Training and coaching of different actors to use and respect updated infection control measures in the care wards (OT, delivery room, wards, ...) and supportive services
• Training and coaching of the OT staff especially the OT nurse to achieve a better operation department management
• Improve the management of the Biomedical equipment

Specific Tasks Performed

• Assessment of the Infection control situation (flows, infrastructure, adherence to the infection control measures) and water sanitation essential requirements in the OPDs, IPDs, ER, OT, Sterilization, Delivery Room Etc.
• Elaboration and regular up gradation of an Infection Control action plan
• Direct supervision, human resource management and training of the Cleaners and sterilization team.
• Training and coaching of staff nurses, doctors, OT nurses, logisticians, cleaners, Health Promoters, waste manager and supervisors to implement, respect and maintain infection control
• Set up of the auxiliary services including infrastructure advice, IC procedures implementation, setup of Laundry, Sterilization, dressing rooms, and new OT plan
• Set up of Isolation rooms in existing wards and setup of new wards
• OT department set up / implementation of infection control measures
Adequate patient management (before, during and after surgery)
OT dress code and scrub
• Quality checks of the material related to IC i.e. scrubs, linen, hygiene material, buckets, etc.

Challenges Overcame

• Tackled Neonatal Unit outbreak which increased Neonatal mortality by implemented infection control emergency preparedness plan
• Implementation and modification of the uniforms according to IC Standards

Key Achievements:
• Monthly trainings of more than 300 nurses, doctors and other paramedical staff
• Set up of isolation wards for dengue, Measles and cholera
• Setup of Sterilization Units in two new hospitals
• Formation of Infection Control Committees in Three Hospitals around the country
• Creation of IC Action plan for the entire hospital and quarterly revision
• Development of multiple Infection control auditing tools which are now used in MSF projects around the world (using CDC Guidelines)
• Vaccination for more than 300 Hospital staff including doctors, nurses, cleaners, supervisors and transporters

Initial assessment of patient
-Reception, guidance of patient and accompanying person and introduction
-Perform initial assessment of patients, particularly those in the resuscitation room under guidance of the nurse supervisor and ER doctor or secondary assessment for ambulance setting

-Initiate emergency treatment measures (including resuscitation/CPR) if needed in accordance with level of knowledge and experience under supervision of nurse supervisor and ER doctor
