As a Mechanical Design Engineer my job responsibilities are as follows:

o Review of Technical Specifications (SABIC, Technip, CB&I, John Zink etc.), Scope of Work and P&IDs for the assigned project
o Kickoff meeting with Client along-with site survey for better understanding of scope of work
o Supervising piping route of steam, feed water, blow down (continuous/intermittent), PSV Vents, sample cooler, chemical dosing, make up water, cooling water etc. lines modeled by draftsman while keeping in view the proper man way access for maintenance and operation
o Static Analysis of piping route for stresses, deflections, reactions and pipe supports
o Stress analysis of complete Power Plant Piping including steam turbine inlet and exhaust lines, tie in oil skid, cooling tower piping etc.
o High pressure & high temperature Low Alloy Carbon Steel Steam header design using Codeware Compress
o Generating expansion bellow design specifications as per software calculations and EJMA standard, floating to Vendors and vetting quotations of expansion bellows
o Generating Spring Hanger (variable / constant) design specifications for high temperature and high-pressure steam lines (500 C & 78 barg)
o Selection and application of hangers for critical piping connected to turbines and pumps etc.
o Flange leakage analysis as per ASME Section VIII Division I
o Performing Pipe thickness and branch connection calculation as per ASME B31.1 and ASME B31.3
o Checking and incorporating NDT, Preheating, PWHT, Impact testing requirements as per Code
o Submitting fabrication tolerance drawings to Client and Workshop
o Stress analysis of Pressure Safety Valve routes for the given reaction thrust as per Vendor's data sheet
o Analyzing of piping loads on equipment nozzles (pumps, steam turbines, soot blowers, silencers, pressure vessels etc.) and meeting the criteria of allowable nozzle loads using economical and best possible solution
o Modification of piping route on the basis of stress analysis using expansion loops or changing the entire route etc.
o Boiler header analysis to analyze the thermal loads on supports and to modify the loops of boiler proper piping
o Modeling of complete Boiler (Water Tube) in AutoPipe to analyze the overall behavior pertaining to thermal expansion of boiler
o Complete Boiler Analysis to exactly see the behavior of boiler under different load cases, to evaluate the reaction forces on foundation supports, and to modify if any tube joint is failing
o 3D review (Bentley Microstation) meeting with Client upon 30%, 60% and 90% completion of piping route and preparing minutes of meeting
o Finite element analysis (ANSYS) of special supports under heavy piping loads for in-house fabrication
o Support structural analysis in Staad Pro and providing the structural profile data with structural dimensions and details to draftsman for drawing preparation
o Pipe Rack analysis in Staad Pro for both welded and bolted joints structure
o Analysis of structural connections and column base plate including anchor bolts using Ram Connection Standalone.
o Supervising the isometric generation and checking of piping isometrics as per Client requirements
o Submission of isometrics and piping plan to Client along with stress analysis report
o Vetting quotations regarding pumps, steam turbines, steam silencers, control valves (globe valve style, ball valve style etc.), pressure safety valves, mechanical valves, blow-down valves etc. as per Client provided specifications
o Material selection of piping, fittings, flanges, valve trims as per line operating and design conditions
o Participate in HAZOP meetings for overall understanding of process scheme and discuss piping route limitations / available options according to scenario
