Lead an Architectural/Engineering and Design Review team of 46 engineers, 28 controllers, 12 QC engineers, and 6 site managers for project construction through liaising and coordinating with all matters related to multi-disciplinary engineering and operational issues to ensure that the work complies with standards, codes, specifications, and design instruction required for the success of the project in accordance with the client expectations.
• Organize and direct the staff and activities concerned with the technical office department and maintenance of the structures passed on work activities and load.
• Manage/supervise the technical office team in performing delegated tasks. Ensure adherence to technical office policies and procedures through continuous review to the project contracts, terms and conditions, time schedule, review of design drawings and owner/consultant s bill of quantities.
• Process submittals, substitution requests, vendor, shop drawings, construction materials and address RFI's during construction.
• Perform field inspections, forensic support work, professional field support, construction trouble shooting as necessary, and offer cost effective optimal remedial solutions during construction phases.
• Follow up /Review the project designs with consultant to prepare project shop drawing to highlight any deviation with the code/standards.
• Coordinate with Site Manager and project control Manager under project Manager direct supervision to set an effective work procedure, work priorities and suitable resources allocation.
• Coordinate all technical matters between engineering, construction, procurement and subcontractors to solve any potential problems.
• Prepare quality conscious technical correspondence, reports, and studies, and assist in setting out Quality Control terms related to Architectural construction materials and their correct usage.
• Reviewing and coordinating the architectural design submittals from contractors, as well as following up site supervision, design conflicts and variation orders for the client.
Lead the Project Management Team in the technical aspects of design activities for 22 active projects in locations across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
PROGRAM MANAGER (July 2015 to Present)
Manage oversight for 16 Project Managers, 6 Planning Engineers, 12 Quality Control Coordinators, and 268 Architects and Engineers in four branches. Utilize the Integrated Design Process that lead to efficient work environment by doing the work right the first time. Worked collaboratively with joint venture international consultants, government entities, and industry professionals to create sustainable design for buildings and infrastructure projects.
• Implemented corrective action plans to avoid potential issues such as scope creep, late fee penalties, and schedule delays by improving projects progress, collecting overdue invoices, issuing variation order when applicable, regained the company's credibility by obtaining client satisfaction and, making sure tasks would meet expected quality.
• Established a new branch in Lisbon, Portugal to target international projects that lead to landing projects in Portugal, Poland, Uganda, and Pakistan and in turn lead to the establishment of the PMO office for DAR Engineering and company growth within two years of employment.
• Utilized comprehensive knowledge of construction industry, international standards, codes and guidelines, as well as cultural understanding and language skills to educate the client and end-users which facilitated collecting and documenting approvals of performed tasks .
• Established a paperless QA/QC review process that lead to operation cost reduction in printing.
Earned promotions within ZFP, starting as Project Manager in the Transportation and Aviation Unit, then transferring to the Building Business Unit as Technical Project Manager, moving to the Riyadh branch to head the Architecture and Engineering (A/E) section, and finally to the position of Branch Technical Manager.
TECHNICAL MANAGER, (April 2010 to June 2015)
Managed a team of 63 engineers to finalize the Ministry of Interior (MOI) project to design one million M² buildings to be used throughout the Kingdom. Oversaw the A/E design team in the development and execution of 14 large scale projects ensuring constructability, and value engineering within budget limitations. Encouraged the creativity and self-development of the team. Established and maintained engineering standards and procedures, and introduced new methods and techniques to enhance capabilities and efficiencies within the engineering department.
• Recommended the switch from AutoCAD to BIM (Building Information Modelling) for all new projects and those in early development and hired appropriately skilled staff.
• Built high-performance teams through motivation, visible leadership, coaching and mentoring. Identified potential team members possessing leadership skills to head smaller size teams to achieve efficiency in the production to align with the company resources and budgets.
Started working as a Project Architect and developed solid technical and management skills, working on multiple projects for this design build firm ending with the final role as Construction Project Manager.
CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER (November 2003 to March 2010)
Oversaw high-end residential and commercial projects, developed staffing plans and coordinated workloads with the project team. Collaborated with the principal for project reviews.
• Led all construction activities for a 31-story LEED Gold awarded apartment building in downtown
New Haven, CT, delivering the project on schedule, within budget. Divided time between office design and applying specific construction execution plans (sequencing of project work, HSE, Hoarding, Site security, site access and egress, materials storage, waste removal, craneage, groundwater, dust, noise and vibration control, and traffic management.
• January 2002- October 2003. (Designer/Project Manager) for “Gill & Gill Architects.” An architectural firm specialized in high-end residential and commercial projects in Norwalk, CT. The job responsibilities included performing various project coordination duties
- Assisting in project analysis, programming, site analysis, scheduling and establishing project objectives.
- Preparing construction documents, construction take-off, cost analyses, project schedule.
- Assisting in the development of strategies to facilitate obtaining all required approvals for development of specific properties and act as a liaison between the company and each municipality.
- Preparing bidding packages, on site direct technical decisions and client’s relations.
