1. Triage and Patient Assessment
❖ Prioritize patients based on the severity of their condition.
❖ Obtain medical history, allergies, and medications.
❖ Measure vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, temperature).
❖ Conduct a focused physical assessment.
2. Patient Stabilization
❖ Ensure the patients airway is open and administer oxygen as needed.
❖ Start intravenous (IV) access for fluid resuscitation or medication administration.
Monitor vital signs and manage the patients condition in real time.
3. Emergency Care and Procedures.
❖ Administer medications (pain relief, antibiotics, sedatives, etc.).
❖ Provide wound care (clean, dress, and bandage wounds).
❖ Stabilize fractures and apply splints or immobilization devices.
❖ Perform basic life support (BLS) and assist with advanced life support (ALS).
❖ Assist in emergency procedures (e.g., intubation, chest tube insertion, central line
placement).
4. Cardiac and Respiratory Monitoring.
❖ Monitor patients heart rhythms (e.g., ECG, pulse oximetry).
❖ Administer defibrillation or cardioversion when necessary.
❖ Perform CPR during cardiac arrest.
5. Pain and Symptom Management.
❖ Assess and manage pain using appropriate medications or techniques.
❖ Address other symptoms like nausea, shortness of breath, or anxiety.
6. Collaboration with the Healthcare Team.
❖ Communicate patient status and updates to the medical team.
❖ Assist physicians and specialists during procedures.
❖ Coordinate care with paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare
professionals.
7. Documentation and Record-Keeping.
❖ Document assessments, treatments, and interventions accurately and on time. Ensure
all medical records are complete and legally compliant.
8. Patient Education and Support.
❖ Provide clear discharge instructions and education regarding medications and follow
up care.
❖ Offer emotional support to patients and families in stressful situations.
❖ Explain procedures and treatment options to patients in an understandable manner.

Nurses are responsible for recognizing patients’ symptoms, taking measures within their scope of practice to administer medications, providing other measures for symptom alleviation, and collaborating with other professionals to optimize patients’ comfort and families’ understanding and adaptation.
