Control and automation of continuous pickling line, 5 stand tandem cold rolling mill and Rewind Line. (Cold Rolling of Steel)

(1) Partial discharge analysis of 11kV Synchronous Motor and medium voltage transformer using high frequency current transformer and ultrasonic measurement.
(2) Infrared thermography analysis of Medium, Low voltage switchgear and motor.
(3) Condition monitoring and condition based maintenance and planning of General Electric made DC motor(more than 1Mega Watt), Synchronous Motor(5 Mega Watt), Induction Motor, Medium Voltage transformer for overhauling.
(4) Transformer oil analysis of Medium voltage transformer e.g. percentage water, FURAN analysis dissolve gas analysis etc.
(5) Estimate the probability of failure of HV cable, Medium voltage transformer and low voltage transformer and failure analysis of failed equipment.
(6) Link data from online condition monitoring of equipment e.g. motor, transformers temperature into SCADA system for online measurement.
(7) Prioritize the ranking the asset and risk using ArcelorMittal risk rating system and planning then replacement of the asset.
(8) Implement cost effective measure for increasing the life of the equipment. E.g. changing the control system for Thyristor Bridge which increased the life from 1 year to 10 years.
(9) Measure the Arc flash level of medium and low voltage switchgear for safe operation (required by South African law).
(10) Inform and formal presentation to management in case of major equipment failure and present cost effective solution.
(11) Programming different type of PLC used in Rolling Mill e.g. Siemens Setp-5, Allen Bradley Control Logix, Alstom Converteam and Square D PLC
(12) Design and maintenance of Flash Butt welder automation system and welding transformer
(13) Design and upgrade 30 tons crane
(14) Condition monitoring, maintenance, programming and commissioning of Variable Speed/Frequency Drive.
(15) Rolling Mill automation and optimizing.
(16) Increasing Plant availability by using Maintenance plan of equipment suggested by original equipment manufacturer.
(17) Upgrading plant PLC from old Siemens PLC, Square D PLC to new Rockwell PLC, optimizing parameters like PID controller.
(18) Installing new AC, DC drives soft starters.
(19) Integrating and communicating different PLC communication protocol to one SCADA system using protocol convertor.
(20) Designing Motor Control Center.
(21) Root Cause Analysis of failures and implementing corrective and preventive action based on root cause analysis
(22) Making and verifying Isolation and lockout methods for the plant to insure electrical safety.
(23) Insure Electrical safety compliance in the plant required by South African labor Laws.
(24) Development of safe working/operating procedure for maintenance of electrical equipment.
(25) Pilot for implementing asset reliability for improve plant availability, conducting meetings with supervisors, technicians of multi-disciplinary team to have better coordination, presenting senior management about plant reliability, making next 5 years maintenance plan for improving plant availability.
(26) Making electrical specification of new equipment, sending tender to different vendor of ArcelorMittal and evaluating the tender.
(27) Researching and contacting firms in Europe and USA for newer technology needed in the plant when local South African vendors unable to provide support. For example- getting a non-contact laser encoder from Belgium in South Africa to measure the strip length in rolling mill.
(28) Leading energy saving projects(Energy Champion of the plant) to reduce the fix cost, e.g. automatic shutdown major loads in case of a breakdown, installing VSD and soft starter to save electricity.
