The Ma’aden Alumina Refinery comprises a 2 train Greenfield Plant, utilizing the Bayer
Process to produce 1.8 Mtpa of alumina. The plant is expandable to 3.6 Mtpa.
Major responsibilities: As the Lead PCS Commissioning Engineer my role was responsible for
up to 20 Honeywell Commissioning Engineers to complete loop testing, troubleshooting,
functional testing, commissioning and startup of the plant for all refinery areas. This also
involved, ensuring the correct procedures were followed, safety procedures observed,
Management of change forms completed, implementing changes and “As Building” the handed
over documentation to achieve a control system to meet the final requirements of the Ma’aden
Alumina Refinery.
The Honeywell Experion R400 architecture of the Ma’aden Process Control System (PCS)
evolved during the design process and consists off,
 Five (5) Honeywell Experion Communities and five (5) Redundant Servers
 Five (5) CCR Consoles
 Four (4) Field Workstations
 Eight (8) Operator Field Kiosks
 21 Technicians workstations
 48 Experion C300 Redundant Controllers
 8 Safety Managers

The Pearl GTL Project consists of two offshore platforms, associated wells and two pipelines
feeding a two-train Gas to Liquids (GTL) plant located within Ras Laffan Industrial City
(RLIC). The plant produces approximately 140, 000 bbl per day of liquid synthetic products
from natural gas when both phase 1 and 2 are in full production.
Due to the size and structure of the Pearl GTL plant, four Honeywell Experion Enterprises are
configured, corresponding to each main Operational/Plant Area; Utilities, Feed Gas Preparation,
Gas to Liquid and Liquid Processing Units. Under control of the four enterprise models are a
total of 10 Experion Communities, each consisting of Servers,
