Milaha is a US$2.8bn publicly-listed holding company with investments in offshore logistics, shipping, supply chain solutions, real estate and trading enterprises.

 Joined the group during the middle of its strategic transformation program, and implemented the group’s reorganized structure that integrated three separate companies into a center-led holding company focused on key business segments and supported by shared corporate functions.

 Transformation - supported the company’s transition into the new integrated structure. Key initiatives include:
-- Developed the approach and plan aimed at “turning off” the transformation program and transitioning the newly merged group into normal operations including setting-up of new units and communication of roles.
-- Set up the new corporate governance framework including defining the new management bodies and assigning responsibilities, adjusting delegations of authorities with the Board of Directors, and serving as the secretary for the newly formed Executive Management Committee.
-- Conceptualized and launched the company’s inaugural intranet.

 Management & Optimization - strengthened the planning and support functions. Key initiatives include:
-- Designed, implemented and currently managing the group’s integrated strategic planning and performance management cycle that links setting strategies, developing budgets and managing performance across Milaha. Actively supporting decision-making by bringing transparency through financial and comparable analyses.
-- Launched a staffing optimization initiative to reduce the management layers and assess personnel requirements and capabilities across both business and corporate units. Achieved significant changes to reporting structures, created new formal organization charts aligned to a standard grading system, and implemented a long term plan to address the required staffing changes over time.

 Growth - working to improve the top-line growth for the group by developing a long term growth plans based on expanding into new geographies and offering new services for key business segments.

 Milaha has consistently grown net profits and increased margins through volatile markets, and is significantly stronger now with greater transparency into financial and operational performance, and the required support functions and processes from which to grow.

Truenorth offers real estate advisory and consulting services ranging from feasibility assessment to acquisition and development management with a focus on developing markets particularly in the MENA region.

As a short-term assignment, I assisted on the following engagements:
 Conducted an organizational assessment for a FMCG distributor, and identified gap between focus customers and business model as cause of underperformance; provided high level transformation plan to achieve objectives.

 Evaluated feasibility and funding requirements for a US$400m mixed use real estate project in Saudi Arabia.

Manager - Corporate Strategy في Limitless, Dubai World

Limitless was the international property development subsidiary of Dubai World (it has since been restructured under the government of Dubai).

 Worked closely with top management to develop and execute the company’s global growth strategy that built the organization into an international brand controlling a US$ 20bn global portfolio in high growth markets including the Middle East, Asia and Russia. Guided the company through the Dubai property cycle.

 Growth: supported business development activities on multiple high profile real estate projects. Tasks included all aspects of the deal cycle from initial screen to DCF modeling/pricing to legal close.
-- Assisted on a US$300m mixed use tower project from initial market entry discussions to legal close.
-- Worked on five multi-billion dollar land deals involving country leadership requiring a balance of applying commercial judgment while understanding and managing related political sensitivities.

 Transformation & Management: developed the business case and approach for transforming the company from a functionally aligned startup to an investments-focused structure based on standardized roles and processes.
-- As part of the program management office, managed all strategic transformation activities including organization redesign, positions re-grading, process redesign, financial and risk management redesign and change management including driving the development and launch of the company’s intranet.
-- Ensured operations were aligned to market changes through the design and implementation of the strategic planning approach.
-- Led and managed the business plan development for the Europe region, and reviewed new project proposals against strategic objectives.

 Downturn Management & Restructuring: provided analytical support for all strategy related activities during the market downturn and the Dubai World Group restructuring period.
-- Developed the strategy on managing receivables during the economic downturn.
-- Assisted the business case formation for Dubai World Group restructuring and refinance discussions.
-- Led cost reduction programs to manage cash flows including cost reviews and headcount reductions.

 Provided ad hoc duties for the CEO: drafting correspondence, staff messages, and presentations; Managed a team of three senior associates/analysts; Provided strategic recruitment support for top management positions.

 As a result of the disciplined strategic planning and the company’s transformation, no government funding was required, and assets positioned in high potential markets such as Saudi Arabia and Russia.

Booz Allen is a global blue-chip management consulting firm.

 Helped government agencies operating in commercial sectors to improve their operations and compete while facing strategic objectives beyond just financial targets. Select engagements included:
-- Assisted a multi-billion dollar capital assets and services acquisitions agency in the development and implementation of its planning, budgeting and review process. Tasks included design and implementation of the integrated review process including analysis of strategic assessments, planning and performance budget support, and the provision of advisory and change management services.
-- Assisted a multi-billion dollar public real estate construction & management program to develop performance metrics as part of its corporate strategic planning effort. Additionally, recommended revisions to strategies, and developed an approach to activity-based costing for the business lines to improve cost efficiencies.
-- Developed a growth strategy for a federal government corporation that uses prison labor for basic services: identified trends within the document management industry and redefined their target customer segment focusing on solutions providers rather than end users in order to grow business competitively.
-- Developed the strategic management capability for a pharmaceutical distribution consortium. Case included developing a supply chain management framework along with metrics to manage the performance of the drug commodity supply chain and the partnership as a whole.
-- Conducted an organizational assessment of a government media organization. Reviewed current functions, structure, processes, organization and staffing, and identified strategic misalignment as cause for underperformance, and proposed changes to begin process of long term change that would be required.

 Recipient of three Booz Allen “Performance Recognition” awards for individual contribution and outstanding performance on the media, capital assets and health center projects.

Advisor - Small Business Development في United States Peace Corps

The US Peace Corps is an international development program run by the US government that provides technical assistance to other countries for the purposes of economic development.

 Assisted the largest microfinance bank in Benin to review operations and improve performance.

 Reviewed strategy and profiled customers resulting in the restructure of the Bank of Djougou’s credit program. Increased rate of repayment from 3% to 31% on old loans and achieved 100% repayment rate on new loans.

 Analyzed business processes resulting in the development of a credit management software using Microsoft Access. This tool, innovatively designed to run on floppy disks, reduced report generation from one week to one hour and increased transparency for regulatory officials.

 Identified the challenge of poor infrastructure that prevented the bank from contacting customers, and developed the creative solution using GPS to mark customer homes that cut “customer track down” time from one hour to ten minutes, and reduced embezzlement risks.

 Formal commendation received from Benin’s Minister of Finance at completion of the project.
