Job Description:
As per policy, procedure and guidelines (PPG) No. NUR/PRAC/J 004
This position is responsible for rendering professional nursing care to patients within an assigned unit in the hospital. Such nursing care is an integral part of the total patient care plan, working in conjunction with the medical staff and according to the policies and procedures of the hospital. This will be in keeping with the accepted principles of professional nursing practice.
Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Performs a variety of supportive and technical nursing skills and utilizes a range of equipment, supplies, medication and other modalities in carrying out specific medical orders for administration of medications and performance of specific treatments, monitoring techniques and other diagnostic, therapeutic and supportive measures. Use equipment in a safe and effective manner.
2. Establishes a good working environment in which patients receive a high standard of care.
3. Takes responsibility for the direct delivery of professional and competent patient care by promoting quality care standards.
4. Informs the Head Nurse/Charge Nurse of any changes in circumstances which affect the standards of care.
5. Establishes and develops effective communications nursing, support services patient and relatives.
6. Maintains safety and well being of patients and staff in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
7. Provides a safe, therapeutic, personalized physical and psychosocial environment for patient care.
8. Ensures that Infection Control practices are adhered to in accordance with approved Infection Control policies.
9. Ensures that all nursing documentation is completed accurately and legibly and understand the importance and relevance of their confidential purposes.
10. Assists in data collection for monitoring statistical purposes.
11. Maintains confidentiality of patient's illness and care.
12. Carries out other duties responsible to the role and the individual at the request of the Head Nurse/Charge Nurse.
13. Assists the doctors during consultations for Military personnel and their dependents.
14. Schedules and gives appointment for patients.
15. Maintain and updates the medical supplies, equipments and medicines.
16. Does the admission and clerking for urgent cases.
17. Does the blood extraction and sends it to the laboratory.
18. Prepares the Medical files of the Military staff and their dependents.
19. Carries out treatment and procedures to outpatients.
20. Supervises junior and new staff and participates in orientation and development programmes.
21. Documents and reports all accidents/incidents to Head Nurse/Charge Nurse. Responsible on all departments in our area: pediatric, EENT, treatment room, IM, etc. specialty clinic/OPD department .
