Provide radiology services as requested by referring clinicians according to statutory regulations and acceptable clinical standards.
Ensure compliance to Radiation safety regulations.
Participate in the maintenance of a round-the-clock radiography service by rotating shifts.
Being on-call for relief staff for emergency and mass casualties by roster and when necessary
Responsible for quality control programs and maintenance of imaging equipment and accessories in the assigned clinical area.
Provide guidance to junior staff or students assigned to the section.
Ensure personal continual professional development and training.
Coordinate with staff from other sections or departments to ensure continuity of patient care.
Cognizant of relevant standard operating protocols (SOPs) and standard work instructions (SWIs) in the assigned clinical areas.
Ensure proper records keeping and management.
Responsible for the good housekeeping and inventory of stocks and materials in the assigned clinical area.
• Assessing patients and their clinical requirements to determine appropriate radiographic techniques.
• Performing a range of radiographic examinations on patients to produce high-quality images.
• Observing and maintaining contact with patients during their waiting, examination and post-examination stay in the department.
• Assisting In more complex radiological examinations working with radiologists and doctors.
• Providing support and reassurance to patients taking into account their physical and psychological needs. Recording imaging identification and patient documentation quickly and accurately and observing protocols to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act and patient confidentiality.
• Administering contrast agents to patients prior to taking x-rays or other imaging tests, in order to improve image quality
• Operating radiographic equipment such as X-ray machines, MRI scanners, CT scanners, ultrasound machines, nuclear medicine equipment, and fluoroscopy equipment
• Preparing patients for examinations by explaining test procedures and ensuring patient comfort during procedures
• Performing diagnostic imaging procedures such as computed tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRIs), and ultrasound examinations
• Reading diagnostic imaging studies to determine if they are diagnostic or to locate possible areas of concern
• Preparing patients for exams by administering contrast agents or putting them into position for scanning
• Communicating with physicians about results of tests and the need for follow-up procedures
• Recording patient information in medical records such as name, age, address, date of birth, next of kin, and physician’s name
• Preparing equipment for use by cleaning and sterilizing it according to protocol.
• Assisting with personal care, which may include bathroom functions, bathing, grooming, dressing, and eating.
• Following a prescribed healthcare plan, which may include assisting with exercise and administering medication.
• Ensuring the client’s home is organized according to their needs and that safety measures are in place. You may also be expected to assist with some light housework.
• Providing emotional support and encouragement to perform necessary tasks.
• Providing mobility assistance may be required, for example helping the client in and out of bed, a chair, or a wheelchair.
• Transporting or escorting the client to medical and other appointments.
