Risk Management
• My work involves identifying major and minor risks that affect the organization in
coordination with other departments or stakeholders. Once the risks are identified
then process of mitigating or minimizing the risks effects are undertaken in liaison
with the concerned stakeholders. Maintaining and updating of the Risk Register.
Follow up on compliance / sanctions related matters in the absence of the compliance
officer.
b) Cargo and Container Claims:
• Primarily work involves mitigation/elimination of claims and coordinating with P & I
clubs and TT Club over various matters.
• Identification, analysis and economic control of potential losses
• Scrutinizing, assessing, adjusting or repudiating cargo claims from cargo interests
• Recovery of damage cost from Third part and TT Club
• Prime task is to investigate the cause of the risk, the sequence of events that led to
the risk
• Liaising with P & I Clubs, Lawyers, worldwide agents, surveyors and underwriters
• Providing guidance to our worldwide agents
• Briefing P & I Clubs and Lawyers on large claims
• Initiate recovery action against liable parties
c) Hull & Machinery:
• Reporting the casualty to Underwriters and Salvage Adjuster’s surveyors in the first
instance following the analysis of a potential claim.
• Initiating surveys in co-ordination with the Fleet Department
• Acquiring documentation from various departments and/or Agents
• Appointing Average Adjusters and providing all possible data and clarifications
• Follow-up deferred repairs and report to Average Adjusters to ensure claims
continuity
• Liaise between P & I Club, Hull & Machinery Underwriters and Solicitors in Collision
cases.
• Scrutinize the claim adjustments.
• Follow-up recoveries with Underwriters.
• Maintain and update claims records.
d) Personal Injury Claims:
• Liaising with Fleet Personnel Department and the P & I Club with regards to claim
defense and offer legal assistance on a need basis
e) F.F.O. Claims:
• Liaising between the vessel, Fleet, Local agents and the P & I Club and follow up of the
negotiations of the claim.
f) Renewals & Maintenance of Covers:
• Major covers include, P & I cover, Charterer’s Liability cover, FD & D cover, Hull &
Machinery & War cover, CFOR and Container Insurance.
• Various other corporate covers include, SOL cover, Cash on Board, Seagoing wives
Indemnity, Spare Parts in Transit, Crew Travel, Fire and Burglary, Third Party Liability,
Fidelity guarantee, Money in Safe and Transit, Money Insurance, Computer Insurance
and Personal Insurance for BOD.
• Obtain the necessary data and figures from respective departments and Branches for
the impending renewal
• Preparing the Tender documents for the consideration of the Tender Committee
• Obtaining quotes from willing Underwriters based on the revised values and figures
• Study in details each quote and note the conditions offered
• Prepare Quotes analysis to be presented to the Tender committee for their final
decision
• Follow-up for cover-notes and policies with the awardee and check for conformity
with the original quote.
• Distributing the contracts to the respective departments and branches
• Administering the War Risk Additional Premium System and reporting the vessels
movements to the Underwriters on periodical basis.
g) Accounting:
• Handling financial transactions and liaising with the P & I Club in matters relating
to claims and Insurance
• Reconciling statement of payments, recoveries made through Clubs, agents and
UASC offices
• Preparing year end accounts and updating records for claims and voyages for
budgets and provisions
h) Contracts:
• Actively involved in the Evaluating of commercial and technical bids as
subcommittee member.
