■ I am leading a research program meant to develop the next generation of non-sewered toilets. A
new product development project funded by the Bill &Melinda Gates Foundation.
■ I implemented a testing facility and a laboratory for wastewater analysis, to allow further
examination and development of our systems.
■ I am testing electro-oxidation as technology for effluent polishing and disinfection.
■ I have successfully obtained the necessary environmental permits, which allows us to run our
testing laboratory.
■ I am currently learning Data Science and Machine Learning, tools we might later apply to
guarantee the safety of the treated water.
Aim of the project: development of an energy-efficient MBR process for the treatment of produced water; work resulted in three publications and currently working on two more.
■ I demonstrated the feasibility of a moving membrane for the amelioration of membrane clogging in produced water treatment
■ I implemented a methodology for assessing the degree of clogging
■ I derived a mathematical model from first physics principles for calculating the power required to create mechanical shear in flat-sheet reciprocating membrane bioreactors treating produced water
■ I trained and supervised a Graduate Assistant and a Research Assistant on the project tasks
Assystem was a subcontractor of Airbus GmbH.
■ I was the focal point and technical lead for metallic materials in relation to Airbus Group.
■ Additionally, I supported the Airbus Materials and Processes team with qualifications of metallic parts (qualification test programs, qualification test reports).
A Leibniz institute is an institute that focuses on knowledge- and application-oriented interdisciplinary research.
■ I developed Flow-Field Flow Fractionation methods for the analysis of microgels; Flow-FFF is an analytical technique suitable for the determination of rigid particle size. My challenge was to develop methods that are applicable to soft particles.
■ I assisted the senior technician with the development of HPLC methods and GPC/SEC measurements
■ I coordinated the analytical performance of the Center for Chemical Polymer Technology (DWI's analytics and service facility)
RWTH Aachen is the largest technical university in Germany, having more than 42000 students enrolled in 144 study programs.
The University works closely with industry and is one of the nine excellence universities in Germany. It also attracts the highest amount of third-party funds of all German universities.
Aim of the project: investigation of membrane filtration processes for concentration and purification of microgels; focus on fouling reduction.
■ I developed, planned, organized and carried out or supervise technical experiments to test proposed hypotheses;
■ I resolved technical issues associated with the utilized laboratory instruments;
■ I processed data and interpreted the results;
■ I presented the results to the senior management/professors or project partners;
■ I participated in internal and external project meetings;

■ I supervised over 700 students during dialysis experiments
Thesis title: Complex theoretical and experimental study of immersed membrane bioreactors (MBRs) The thesis tackled the problem of MBRs performance maintenance at the level of membrane permeability (experimentally) and behaviour optimization through new start-up strategies (computationally). The mathematical modelling of the physical system involved solving systems of stiff ODEs and multi-objective optimizations with genetic algorithms, and was performed with in-house Matlab programs run through GUIs.
I was the valedictorian of my class, with an average grade of 9.41 out of 10. Dissertation: - Mathematical modelling of immersed membrane bioreactors (Matlab) - Design of a low-pressure methanol production plant (Matlab, HYSYS, AutoCAD) - Grade: 10/10
