During my role as an Information and Technology Project Manager, I focused on data policy & information transparency within the Digital, Data and Technology branch. My team and I led on delivering policies that gave digital access and greater control of health records to citizens across the United Kingdom. My role involved preparing client’s proposals, identify issues, providing solutions, delegating tasks, monitoring progress as well as managing members of staff. Furthermore, I wrote reports, presented findings to clients and developed and responded to business leads. I also shaped new policy and led on high-profile policy projects. This included the national data opt-out which is a programme that allows citizens in the United Kingdom the choose how their confidential patient information (CPI) would be used by the government. Furthermore, my role involved legislative work which led to my team and I leading on the shaping and implementation of the new Data Protection Act 2018. My team and I also led on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is a major EU-wide legislation that now applies across all sectors in Europe.

Whilst working in the National Referral Mechanism (NRM), I worked as an Information and Technology Project Manager specialising in Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery. I managed five members of staff and worked closely with our deputy director to develop and implement policies and procedures, as well as monitor the implementation process by consulting our operational team. I gained significant experience in translating and accurately communicating matters across both technical and non-technical stakeholders, as well as facilitating discussions within multidisciplinary teams, with diverse backgrounds and points of views. During this period, I led on several high profiled and sensitive policies, which included the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Home Office and the Department of Health, concerning the sharing of digital medical records of illegal immigrants (including victims of trafficking).

During my time as an Information and Technology Project Manager in the Digital, Data and Technology Operations branch, I was responsible for planning, overseeing, controlling and evaluating new policies relating to asylum and immigration. I worked with other teams to create delivery plans and ensured that they were continually reviewed and improved. I made sure to report progress against plan and track team performances and effectiveness to a wide range of stakeholders. My role also involved recording and taking responsibility for managing risks, as well as creating a feedback mechanism so that teams could continually measure and improve their performance. The role itself required the analysis of complex information, extensive research and ensuring that the outcomes were in line with the Home Office policy and guidance.
