As Principal Architect I was responsible for the design and construction of 03 Underground Metro Stations for Line 6 Extension under ‘Design & Build’ Contract CC05 for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

The 3 underground stations are ITO Station, Delhi Gate Station and Jama Masjid Station.

Responsibilities include the following:

1. Control of Architectural Design for all stations.
2. Approval of design drawings from client.
3. Managing the design process through planned stages carefully incorporating the client’s requirements as well as the requirements of designated contractors.
4. Co-ordinating with various designated contractors as well as construction affiliates to sequence room finishing and handover.
5. Actively involved in ‘Claims & Variations’ for additional (new) items as well as items whose quantity has exceeded BoQ quantities.
6. Managing fortnightly meetings with Sub Contractors and scheduling two weeks look ahead programme.
7. Developing an execution plan that addresses the requirements of Key Dates.
8. Monitoring of ‘Progress of Activities’ at site.

DEPUTY GENERAL MANAGER (Architecture)

at Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited - Reliance Infra Ltd & CAF JV
Location : India - Delhi
As Head Architect was involved in the implementation of 06 Metro Stations and 01 Depot for the Airport Metro Express Line (AMEL), New Delhi, India; having a length of 22.70kms (15kms underground and 7.7kms elevated).

This was a PPP project with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation wherein DAMEPL was responsible for the Design, Operation and Maintenance of the systems for a concession period of 30 years.

The stations along the alignment include New Delhi Station (terminal), Shivaji Station, Dhaula Kuan Station, Delhi Aerocity, Airport Station and Dwarka Sector 21 Station (terminal, interchange). 3 stations are underground, 1 elevated and 2 semi-underground.

Responsibilities include the following:

1. Control of Architectural Design for all stations and depot, except Dwarka Sector 21 station, within the civil structure envelop provided by DMRC. The stations were designed as per the design standards of NFPA 130 whereas the depot was designed as per the design standards of NBC.
2. Managing the design process through planned stages, co-ordinating with individual discipline teams and construction affiliates.
3. Conducting co-ordination meetings regularly and ensuring the various discipline deliverables.
4. Submission and approval from Delhi Fire Service.
5. Framing specifications and design for a suitable false ceiling to suit both form and function.
6. Framing specifications of UL Rated Fire Doors as well as selection of door hardware.
7. Selection and subsequent approval from the management of the various finishes proposed to the stations and depot internally as well as externally.
8. Selection and subsequent approval of the various Building Services items (light fittings, sanitary fixtures, etc).
9. Review of shop drawings.
10. Involved in Signage, Advertisement and Artwork design strategy.

at W.S. Atkins and Partners Overseas
Location : United Arab Emirates - Sharjah
Part of a team involved in the Refurbishment and Modernisation of 152 stations for London Underground under the patronage of Metronet a Joint Venture Company comprising of Balfour Beatty, EDF Energy, Bombardier, Thames Water and Atkins.

Responsibilities include the following:

1. Production of architectural drawings which was achieved through regular in depth co-ordination with other discipline engineers (Electrical, Mechanical & Public Health, Fire Detection and Alarm, Communications, Structures and Human Factors).
2. Production of Scope of Works document as well as Proposed Scope of Intrusive Surveys document.
3. Creation of Specifications in accordance with British Standards.
4. Space Applications Form, Change Procedure Forms and Concession Requests.

The entire process was carried out in accordance with RIBA stage D through RIBA stage E and RIBA stage F upto RIBA stage Post AFC.

Stations worked upon were:

1. Ruislip Gardens Station: Generation of RIBA Stage E drawings as well as RIBA Stage F drawings along with Scope of Works document as well as Scope of Intrusive Surveys document.
2. Redbridge Station: Generation of RIBA Stage Post AFC drawings.
3. Aldgate Station: Generation of RIBA Stage D drawings along with Scope of Works document, Scope of Intrusive Surveys document and Presentation Package to LU.
4. West Kensington Station: Generation of RIBA Stage D+ drawings (combination of Stage D and Stage E requirements) as well as Scope of Intrusive Surveys document.
5. Pinner Station: Preparation of Scope of Intrusive Surveys document.

Part of a team involved in the “Architectural Shop Drawing Review” process for Dubai Rapid Link Consortium; a Joint Venture Company comprising of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Corporation, Obayashi Corporation, Kajima Corporation and Yapi Merkezi.

Responsibilities include the following:

Checking of Architectural Shop Drawings that have been produced by the sub-contractors for the Red Line Stations only such as Mall of the Emirates station, Al Karama station, City Centre station, Al Rigga station, etc.
These were checked versus the design intent drawings to ascertain that the essence of the design has been retained.

The shop drawings comprise of:

1. Blockwork setting out plans and elevations for back of house as well as front of house.
2. Floor and wall finish layout plans and elevations for public areas.
3. Staff and public toilet layout plans and elevations.
4. Door types having varied fire ratings/ironmongery/sizes/leaf types.
5. False floor setting out for communication rooms.
6. External wall/roof cladding systems.
