Senior Reservoir Engineer

March 2012 - Present

Petrofac

London, United Kingdom

March 2012 - Present

• Working on projects involving field development planning and appraisal, well and field production optimisation, reservoir simulation and history matching, reservoir management, field operations support, material balance analysis, nodal analysis, reserves evaluation, reserves audits, decline curve analysis, pressure transient (well test) and PVT analysis.

• Responsible for generating the field development plan using Eclipse and Petrel RE to optimise recovery and field economics for a recently discovered multi-stacked, faulted sandstone oil reservoir. Evaluated the optimum development of the field reviewing the number and placement of producers and water injectors, timing of secondary recovery, field liquid production capacity, well maximum rates and economic cut-offs, benefits of commingled reservoir production, sensitivity of aquifer size, reservoir properties and relative permeability to field recovery. Field development plan was submitted to national oil company for approval and migration to Production Sharing Contract.

• Working in multidisciplinary subsurface teams to undertake due diligence on assets located worldwide. Using dynamic simulation, well performance and reservoir material balance models to evaluate production potential by generating production forecasts and estimating recoverable volumes. Undertaking sensitivity analysis to generate uncertainty matrix to determine the most impactful field development, reservoir and fluid parameters on field economics and recovery.

• Assigned responsibility for the company’s mature oil field, undertaking planning of field development strategies, undertaking well and field production optimisation, providing operational support and undertaking reservoir management. Projects have included appraisals to identify and implement infill drilling opportunities, planning of water injection recovery techniques, undertaking nodal analysis using PROSPER to plan timing of artificial lift and optimise well production, estimating field production forecasts and reserves for business planning, proposing and implementing well and field data acquisition programmes. Responsible for updating and managing production and pressure databases in OFM and undertaking decline curve analysis for wells undergoing production decline.

• Undertook a reservoir simulation history match using Eclipse on two oil and gas fields located in Nigeria. The fields contained several faulted, stacked sandstone reservoirs with production history of over 10 years from multiple wells. The simulation was controlled on historical oil production rates and reservoir properties were optimised to attain a match on well tubing head and reservoir pressures, water cuts and gas oil ratios. Worked in collaboration with the geomodeller in improving the structural models and properties to coincide with the dynamic history match.

• Provided mentoring of junior reservoir engineering staff giving technical guidance and support for projects and personal development. Built an excellent working relationship with all staff, clients and contractors.

RPS Energy

London, United Kingdom

October 2005 - February 2012

• Had the opportunity to work on a wide range of greenfield and mature sandstone and carbonate oil and gas reservoirs located around the world including onshore UK and UK North Sea, Dutch North Sea, Norwegian North Sea, Italy, Georgia, Ukraine, Iraq, Nigeria, Colombia, USA, Canada, Indonesia and Libya.

• Reserves evaluations to SPE PRMS and SEC guidelines using dynamic simulation, material balance modelling and decline curve analysis using the software’s Eclipse, Petrel RE, MBAL, PROSPER and OFM. Estimation of field reserves, contingent and prospective resources and the generation of production forecasts. Provided independent opinion in the form of competent persons reports on the technical aspects of oil and gas assets located worldwide.

• Undertook a reserves audit on a client’s reported reserves volumes involving a study and evaluation of the appropriateness of the methods and procedures used in estimating and documenting reserves information. A review of reserves definitions and classifications used by the client as well as underlying data was also undertaken.

• History match of an oil field using Eclipse. The simulation was controlled on historical reservoir volumes produced from the field and properties such as relative permeability, porosities, aquifer size and transmissibility were optimised to obtain a match on reservoir pressure, oil rates, water cut and GOR’s produced from the field.

• Detailed evaluation of Iraqi producing oil and gas fields to determine potential recovery from prospective reservoirs located in 10 blocks offered in the 4th Iraq licencing round. Estimation and review of net reservoir thickness versus oil recovery, initial production rates versus permeability and KH, well production decline, spacing and drainage areas, producer-injector patterns, field plateau production rates, recovery factors, recoverable volumes and production forecasts.

• Analysed a number of PVT samples to determine the extent of oil-based mud contamination. Differences in fluid composition in PVT reports were shown to be due to significant oil based mud contamination. The analysis proved the samples of reservoir fluids taken from different areas of the reservoir were in fact the same composition and the same reservoir fluid.

• Well tests were analysed for a number of wells on an oil field using Kappa’s Saphir software to better understand the reservoir and determine properties such as kh, skin and the presence of boundaries. Findings from the analysis were used as input to an integrated field development study.

• Generated a material balance model for an oil field using Petroleum Experts MBAL software. Historical well production, GOR, water cut and pressure data was history matched. The model was used as a forecasting tool to estimate recoverable oil and generate production forecasts for the field.
