Assistant Barge Engineer Trainee, Recruited by the National drilling company في NDC
  • الإمارات العربية المتحدة - أبو ظبي
  • مارس 2015 إلى أغسطس 2015

• Practical enrollment at the “ETSDC” on survival techniques of helicopter ditching & Escape fire systems in case of Smoke and fire emergencies using Mask and Air breathing apparatus. Learnt Emergency escape plans on how to respond in hazardous areas of NDC Jack-ups, using different detector types and “air hose” to detect wind direction, such as in in-case of H₂S Toxic gas leakage, all to ensure safe drilling policies are met. Practical training for the Elementary first Aid applications in case of crew injury.
• Green Hats Health & Safety orientation programme at NDC Habshan camp training centre: introduction to NDC`s values, mission and vision. Underwent Practical and Theoretical simulating program for Advanced Drilling on MODU ( Mobile offshore drilling units ), which included tasks such as tripping in & out, while controlling the different loads like the weight on bit. Introduced to latest electronic controlled Main engine systems on a rig. Recognized operations Data noted in log books, tanks capacity in Oil record books, maintenance checks carried periodically for the machinery and marine equipment on the rig to ensure valid certification & documentations at time of surveys to meet classification society’s codes & legislations placed by the IMO.
• Completed NDC teaching course of “Marine operations on self elevating platforms, under approved supervision of the NDC Marine & offshore operations dept-head. This academic training programme included stability calculations on Jack-ups within 6 degrees of freedom. Stability (positive GM, GZ) has to be maintained at all times considering internal forces like movement of cranes on board, internal factors such as: vibrations due moving machinery, drilling on the rotating table and heavy load handlings. and external factors, such as wind, current and waves. Calculations like trim & heel moments, drafts. Determination of centres of gravity and buoyancy, free surface correction, metacentric point. Load distribution on tri-legs during elevating operations and pre-loading .Underwater flooding targeted on non-water tight doors calculated at one side of the upper deck compartments, Righting Lever arm moments i.e the internal stored energy that restores the rig to its normal position when tilted, Free surface correction; i.e. Disposition of the Centre of Gravity due to the loading, discharging, dislocations of the derrick; slacking effect of partially filled water, chemicals & fuel tanks and movements of crew and the variable loads such as hoisting of the drill pipes from the rack on the catwalk through winches or cranes. Moments are calculated for the fixed machinery and variable loads acting at different positions along the vertical, longitudinal & transverse particular axis of the offshore structure.
• Acknowledged safe Cantilever skidding operations when sliding the derrick to a max permissible distance out of the hull, ensuring the max and min safety heights at which the hull can be raised at “pre-loading” preparations and when in normal operations, supervising safe hoisting, handling and lifting procedures such as maintaining max allowable distance between derrick and winch, max wind speed in knots at which cranes are to be shunned from operation. Derricks are slided and centered at different positions on the platform where the drilling is to be performed. When relocated after a short or long rig move, whether towed by tugs or through self-propelled structures, ensured Safe ascending and descending of Jack-up legs using the “Rack and pinions” principal to transform the mechanical rotating movement of the reduction gears to linear motion at very slow velocities, powered by an electric system. Ensuring spud-cans (cone shaped tanks at legs bottom) are fixed on the sea-bed and water ballast systems tested when preloading and when spud cans get stuck, a water jet Punch through done. Maintaining the correct Air-Gap distance between Keel and water surface during elevation process.
