National Bank of Bahrain is a premier bank in Bahrain with branches in Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia. My role involves identifying all aspects of credit risk in relation to loans and advances, bonds as well as investment in equity and requires close interaction with business units and customers especially involving structuring and large value deals. I play a key role in introducing new products and assess risk related to those and introduce policies and procedures in line with the risk appetite of the bank.

The job requires good quantitative and analytical skills, customer interaction and financial acumen. I was instrumental in successfully implementing the Risk Adjusted Return on Capital (RAROC) model

My work profile includes: • Risk evaluation and review of o proposals from Corporate & Commercial banking customers in Bahrain
o project finance deals in the middle- east region syndicated by the Bank and financial institutions (where the bank is a participant)
o investment in bonds in the international markets, sukuks of entities in the middle-east region
o the bank's proprietary equity investments
• Setting and monitoring financial institution (FI) and country limits (about 400 banks covering 58 countries) . FI constitutes one third of the bank's balance sheet size
• Preparation of treasury risk policy (currency open position limit, interest rate cap, bond and equity investment, setting tolerance level, liquidity gap etc) as also setting up policies for corporate and commercial portfolio.
• Prepare/Review overall asset profile of the bank to aid change in risk policies and ensure alignment of risk policies to bank's strategy.

The Indian Operations started in 1996 and had funded asset base of USD 5Bn. Managed a team of 6 people and reported to the Country Head. Objective was to increase the loan book and cross sell treasury products. Extensive travel within India and abroad and constant customer - multinational corporates and FIs

I was instrumental in increasing the asset base as well as in introducing new products. Recognized by management as core staff for the branch and was part of many committees. My work profile included:
• Project finance and syndication deals as Mandated Lead Arrangers for top notch companies like Reliance Industries, Tata Steel, SBI, EXIM Bank, ICICI, IDBI etc.. Also visited Japan for arranging a Samurai Deal of USD 1Bn for Exim Bank.
• Handled MNC relationship of prestigious customers viz; Toyota, Suzuki, Honda, Bridgestone, Unilever etc and other customers in the Small and Medium Sector.
• Cross selling Treasury products like FX swaps and interest rate swaps.
• Critical appraisal of credit proposals for sanction of facilities viz. working capital, term loan etc, prepared by Credit Analyst. Regular monitoring of these accounts and ensure proper conduct with approval authorities to allow excess upto 10% of the sanctioned limits with a cap of USD 1MM to USD 2MM (based on the internal rating parameters)
• Introducing new products, marketing the same, ensuring compliance of regulatory requirement. Introduced new products like PCFC, Buyers Credit, Currency Swaps, Interest Rate Swaps etc.
• Controlling MIS functions - Loan volumes, Trade volumes, FX volumes vis-à-vis profitability and planning the annual profit target for the branch.

Accreditions: Project Financing at Singapore and other credit related programmes in Hongkong and Japan.
