As the only Neurology consultant working in Gaza with western experience, I have been exposed to various challenges, particularly by having to provide sound medical opinion and advice in low resource enviroment.
Also Part of my job was to guide and supervise junior colleges during their Board residency rotation in Neurology.
Since my arrival from the UK I have been working in the premises of the ministry of health, in particular the shifa hospital complex. First I was working solely as a neurologist in the neurology unit, but two years later I was promoted to be the head of the medical specialities in the hospital. Through these jobs I had the opportunity not only to look after a wide array of neurological cases, but also to supervise and support colleagues when it comes to taken decisions regarding more complicated and multi morbid cases. The neurology services are provided in as inpatient and outpatient facilities with the availability of EMG and EEG as out patients only services. Most of the cases were dealt with locally, but given the lack of some advanced laboratory services, like genetically based ones, and the shortage of some expensive medications, some selected patients had to be referred abroad.
Neurology training in posts approved by the RCP in kings College Hospital/ London and East Kent Hospitalls.
Internal medicine specialist working in the only hospital operating with european standard in Gazastrip. I have vastly improved my internal medical skills and was promoted to become a consultant 2 years before leaving to UK. In this period I was looking after my own patients, running my general medical clinic and participate in medical education for medical residents and medical students.
Internal medical training according to the requirements of the Jordanian Medical Council to get eligibility to set the board exam. The hospital was the only tertiary care hospital in Palestine, and offered residency training In many specialities. My focus training was cardiology rheumatology and endocrinology, beside general medicine.
