• Responsible for proactively managing the main Real Estate Loan Portfolio of the bank.
• Specialized in Financing for new high valued Real Estate projects including Hotels, mainly owned by high net-worth individuals.
• Supervising, leading and managing the department employee work to carry out the activities of the department. In view of satisfying the customer while adhering to the policies and procedures of the bank and the regulatory bodies.
• Achieving the target for Cross-selling of the products of the other departments (investments / trade) and related companies (Insurance) of the bank.
• Develop client relationships, anticipate and provide solutions to client needs and give high priority to client satisfaction.
• Responsible for meeting or exceeding agreed performance targets and objectives given by the management.
• Appraise the Project Proposals and Recommending for higher approval.
• Coordinate with other departments (Legal, Engineering, Risk, Operations, Trade, Investments and other related departments) in order to execute customer transactions.
• Monitoring the progress of the ongoing projects assisted by the bank engineers, and disbursing funds from loan facility after matching work done against the value of the invoice. If any difference is remedied in coordination with the project owner, contractor and consultant.
• Upon completion of the projects structuring the repayments of the facilities based on the customer requirements & income generated from the project. In order for smooth repayments of the facilities without creating any NPL.
SMB is a subsidiary of Seylan Bank. Having over 15 branches SMB is the largest Merchant Bank in Sri Lanka. SMB is engaged in leasing, investments, real estate & trading of equity. Duties and responsibilities were as follows.
• Managing the Loan Portfolio of the Gampaha region.
• Monitoring the overall operation of the branches and new branches.
• Handling customers by providing solutions for their banking and equity trading.
• Recruiting, training, guiding and motivating the staff to be productive and to face the challengers at the work place.
• Meeting with the top management to present the progress figures of the branches.
• Preparing of annual budgets.
• Developing products to meet the changing needs of the customers, to improve the image of the bank and to take forward.
• Approving of credit proposals within the delegated authority and rest of the proposals recommending for higher approval. Which include Leasing, Corporate & Personal loans.
• Canvassing and managing of Leasing, Investment and equity portfolios of customers. Mainly medium and large scale business.
• Established a branch network for SMB Securities across the country, and was responsible for all administration, operational and business development activities of the branch network.

• Canvassing of medium and large scale business customers for credit facilities.
• Managing a Corporate Credit Portfolio.
• Investigation & Evaluation of credit facilities requested by the customers.
• Preparing, Recommending & submitting of credit proposals for higher approval.
• Executing of credit facilities once approved by obtaining necessary security documents, insurance & submitting papers for RMV (Registrar of Motor Vehicles) transfer
• Monitoring & follow-up of credit facilities granted.
• Investigation & Evaluation of credit facilities, mainly medium and large scale business, (corporate and retail).
• Approving, Recommending & Submitting credit proposals for higher approval.
• Handling of medium & large scale business customers and promoting for new customers.
• Managing a Corporate & Retail Credit Portfolio.
• Coordinating operations with legal officers & values to execute and disburse approved facilities.
• Follow up of legal proceedings of overdue facilities.

• Preparing of recovery progress statements of customers for perusal of the management.
• A part of the team commencing operations of Pawn brokering in the branch, when it was initially introduced to the bank.
Product knowladge of leasing to Documentation, Marketing, Recovery and Follow up.
This is a professional qualification in banking equivalent to a university degree, since the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka is an approved professional body by the government of Sri Lanka which is linked to the Chartered Institute of Bankers London.
