Ports Development Company (PDC), is the owner and developer of King Abdullah Port (KAP), the first ‘privately’ owned and funded port facility of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East region. KAP is a 10 billion Saudi Riyal project which is developed and managed by PDC.
As a head of HSE department I am responsible for the design, implementation, communication and coordination of all environmental, health, and safety programs within KAP. Also responsible to direct the resources and activities of KAP to support the execution of its HSE management system by developing and implementing standards and guidelines that should be followed by KAP’s concession holders.
In these 33 month with PDC, successfully I’ve achieved the following:
- Establishing, managing and operating KAP’s Fire & Rescue Station.
- Establishing, managing and operating KAP’s Healthcare clinic.
- Establishing, managing and operating KAP’s oil spill unite.
- Develop KAP’s safety policies and procedures for construction and operation works.
- Develop and execute KAP’s traffic control system.
- Develop and execute KAP’s safety bylaws.
- Develop and execute the work permitting system inside KAP.
- Establishing and managing KAP’s safety & Environment management system in order to achieve OHSAS 1801.
JEC is one of the four major new Economic Cities in the KSA. It is a 100 Billion Saudi Riyal project. I started with JECT as an Environmental Engineer then gradually been promoted to Environmental Engineering Manger then Manager of Safety and Environment.
In my first year with JEC, I was helping the head of Engineering in the master planning to secure the sustainability of JEC’s developments. April 2009 I’ve been promoted from Environmental Engineer to be Environmental Engineering Manager. In 2010 the Safety department and the Environmental Engineering department been merged in one department called Safety & Environment reporting to the vice president of JEC. I’ve been assigned to be the manager of this department and continued with this title until May 3013.
The Following are some of my achievements during this 5 years with JEC:
- Develop and execute JEC’s Environmental Standards and procedures for developers and investors.
- Develop and execute JEC’s Safety Management System for construction stage in compliance with HSG56 guidance.
- Supervised the first and the second Environmental Impact Assessment study (EIA) for JEC’s master plan.
- Supervised and reviewed the Aluminum smelter and the power plant’s EIAs studies.
- Participated and Supervised the EIA study for JEC’s Port project.
- Project manager for JEC’s Mangroves relocation project.
- Project manager for JEC’s boundary fence.
- Project manager for the marketing complex’s landscaping project.
- Managing the works of Procuring and installing 3 monitoring stations for air quality at JEC.
- In this 5 years, we have recorded 0 fatality and 0 LTI incident for all JEC’s works.
SWC is a governmental agency that is responsible to regulate and maintain the national natural resources in Saudi Arabia. KACST is an independent scientific organization focusing on science researches in natural resources, Energy, Environment, Nanotechnology, Information Technology, Communication, Space and Aeronautics Technology...etc. also KACST provide external funding for any critical national scientific project could serves the Saudi national sustainability strategy. I was the project coordinator between SWA and KACST for five projects under the national Endangered Species Program. Also, I’ve developed the Local Emergency response plan for Farasan Island and was responsible on the development of SWC’s annual report. In addition to that, I was leading and managing the landside monitoring & patrolling programs for 4 protected areas.
PME is the governmental body who is responsible to regulate, monitor and manage KSA’s environmental aspects related to air quality, water quality, soil quality and hazardous waste management. I was acting as team leader of PME observers who are in charge of Dammam industrial city monitoring and inspection program. Also worked in the laboratory for 3 months during the joint inspection program that covers Eastern province and Riyadh’s industrial cities in order to evaluate the environmental conditions in each industrial city. Participate in the imaginary environmental battling and cleaning Experiments, during the oil spills in Arabian Gulf. Furthermore, I was one of PME’s team worked with the UN team in the Gulf Ware Compensation program. I was one of the national committee members who has conducted the Environmental and social survey covers all cities, towns and villages located on the Arabian Gulf to assess Health, Economic, social, and Environmental impacts and damages resulted from gulf war on Saudi Arabia shorelines.
