The hypothesis of my research is “Optimum synergistic effect offered by the phytochemical ingredients present in a herbal preparation Tridham (TD) may down regulate AFB1 toxicity and increase cell death of cancer cells by replenishing the function of mitochondria and activating the apoptotic process” If so, to what extent will this drug prove to be valuable in treating HCC (Hepatocellular carcinoma)? In summary, the in vivo administration of TD modulates the functions of enzymes, decreases the mitochondrial LPO, increases antioxidant levels and induces apoptosis in tumor cells, leading to a prolongation of the survival of rats with experimental HCC. It might be concluded that, based on the results of both in vivo and in vitro studies, TD has been found to exhibit profound antioxidant and apoptotic properties in experimental HCC. The therapeutic effect of TD might be attributed to the synergistic effects of polyphenols such as flavonoids, tannins, gallic acid, ellagic acid, vitamin-C and other compounds present in TD. Hence this study provides evidence for the therapeutic properties of TD in Hepatocellular Carcinoma.
