Head Nurse
Responsible of a unit with 33 bed capacity of NICU with data base of 85 nurses, with scope of services: extreme premature, multiple congenital malformation, cardiac and all prematurity complications.
I-Daily responsibilities:
• Follow up nurses’ performance, certificates updates, corrective actions, and verbal counseling.
• Random checking of assignment and Allocation.
• Follow up management with the doctors for the long stay & critical patients.
• Staff education about: NRP, BLS, fire drills, Pressure injury awareness.
II-Monthly responsibilities:
• Monthly Unit achievement
• NDNQI indicators including the infection control statistics and nursing care hours.
• Preparation of a schedule for 85 nurses.
• in service lectures
• Follow up narcotics and floor stock.
• Update call list & Disaster phone tree
• Administration round
III-Yearly responsibilities:
• Annual leave booking for the staff.
• Yearly performance appraisal submission for the nurses.
• submission to the Administration: Staffing plan, Operation plan update, Capital equipment request if needed, Annual report and overtime budget with justification.
IV-Meetings:
• Unit monthly meetings.
• Charge nurses Monthly meeting.
• Maternal and Child division monthly meeting.
• Quarterly Leadership meeting.
• * Perinatal meeting on weekly basis.
The post holder will provide clinical supervision for an assigned group of nursing staffs and direct nursing care of the patient in the defined area. Assesses and anticipated the health needs of patents, utilizing the nursing process in collaboration with other health care tem members.
The post holder will coordinate administrative and clinical nursing care activities to the Head Nurse a required and represents the unit for nursing committee's and task force as required.
Preopening preparation:
1-Assigned RNs to clinic with job description.
2-preparation of medication, equipments, and supplies nedded for each clinic with check lists.
•Ability to perform all procedures accurately and according to the institution policies and standards
•Good time management
•Communication skills
•Critical thinking skills
•Flexibility to work with all kind of people and to respect the differences
•Cross trained in PICU and Step down unit
•Taking care of premature babies at NICU 24 weeks and above
•Attending high risk deliveries
•Taking care of cardiac babies (TGA, DPA, coarctation of aorta.)
•Assisting Dr’s in procedures (intubation, LP, sepsis work up, central line insertion)
•Ability to handle high acuity cases
•Assessment of babies and establishing a care plan
•Work according to the Magnet, JCI, ANA and MOH standards
•Appointment arrangement and triage for outpatient clinic
1- performs emergency triage and telephone triage.
2-Obtain complete health history and performs appropriate physical exaination.
3-Assist physician with medical procedures.
4-Administer IM, IV, SC and vaccines.
5-provide proper nursing care and maintaining the safety and comfort of the patient .
6-conduct blood withdrawal and ECG programmed in computer for adults and pediatric.
7-preparation of monthly statistics of Ministry of Health and the department of Informatics.
8-Contribute to the health education through the provision of monthly and weekly lectures for individuals and group to preserve and promote the health of patient .
9- Engage in countinuing education and in upgrating of knowledge and skills .
1- Physical assessment for pediatric patient.
2- giving medications :IV, SC, IM ingection.
3- Blood withdrawal.
4- preparing patient for operating room and receiving post operative.
5- deal with emergency and isolation situation.
1- taking care of of elderlies and sick babies: giving medications, treatments, dressings, and other nursing servies according to patient's condition.
2- Observe, evaluate, and record symptoms.
3- Apply independent emergency measures to counteract adverse developments.
4- Direct patient in good health habits.
Give information to family in treatment and maintenance of healthfull enviroment .
5- Supervise diet .
Nursing license from ministry of public health (MOH) in Kuwait
Bachelors of Science in Nursing
