• In my current role I am responsible for ensuring the veracity of HSBC’s financial reports while monitoring all market and product related risks for transfer, reporting and escalation purposes.
• I am also expected to stay abreast of competitor activity and expanding product and technological capabilities vis-à-vis international accounting and reporting requirements.
• Overseeing project management and valuation controls, I provide first-hand advice and guidance to staff in ensuring that all valuation controls accurately and effectively account for all Global Market transactions.
• I was chosen to head the financial operations of HSBC’s global markets business in the Maldives and to provide business risk and control management support to senior management within the offshore unit.
• My influence and expertise in this regard permeated all aspects of the global markets business from product valuation and market risk to financial controls and management reporting on project management operations.
• I worked directly with the CEO and Board of Directors in implementing the overall strategy for the bank while monitoring, analyzing and reporting on individual strategic initiatives taken by the different business units.
• My final role at NTB pushed me beyond my comfort zone while challenging my core-technical and analytical skills in preparation for the subsequent career-defining role at one of the largest financial institutions in the world.
• I briefly headed NTB’s management reporting and planning operation where I was responsible for conducting peer-reviews, monitoring budget variance and assessing business unit profitability against industry benchmarks.
• Promoted to my first management role within just 5 years of joining NTB; I worked in tandem with Treasury and upper management in monitoring and mitigating financial impacts to the department as well as the entire bank.
• My operational tasks included preparing multiple analysis reports vis-à-vis risk monitoring, P&L movements and liquidity issues as well as performing stress tests, VaR/ scenario analysis and feasibility checks on new products.
• I was also entrusted with calculating the quarterly capital charge for regulatory reporting and conducting audit checks on Treasury operations in addition to assisting IT with user acceptance testing on middle office systems.
• Moving from cards to treasury; I gained the opportunity to flex my analytical skills through monitoring market and credit risk while generating MIS for senior management and supporting Treasury’s middle office operations.
• My expertise in project management and organizational skills were applied to a special project team tasked with implementing TSYS Prime; a globally acclaimed card and payment software solution.
• I maintained a hands-on, engaged approach in seeing through the project’s conclusion from monitoring system performance and validating output to user-manual preparation, end-user training as well as acceptance testing.
