Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:
• To work within the UAE scope of Nursing Practice and relevant professional guidelines.
• Take charge of the Unit in the absence of the Nurse Manager or Assistant Nurse Manager.
• Adapts to changing work situations by adjusting staff assignment/ or seeking assistance from the Nurse Manager or assistance from the Nurse Manager or assistant Nurse Manager.
• Develop and support junior staff through effective assessment, mentoring and evaluating clinical practice.
• Participate in the orientation of new staff. Act as a mentor role model to less experienced staff. Ensure staffs are fully aware of their range of duties and responsibilities within the scope of practice.
• Facilitates team processes by participating actively, effectively, efficiently, and in ways that respect the needs and contributions of others.
• Assumes responsibility for day to day duties and completes tasks as allocated.
• Inspires, motivates, and guides others toward goal accomplishment.
• Works cooperatively with fellow team member by sharing information and resources.
• Acts as professional practice role model for junior nursing staff.
• Demonstrate clinical practice leadership and critical thinking skills.
Patient Care Responsibilities:
• Administers and controls narcotics and medications.
• Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
• Prepares patient for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment.
• Monitors the condition of patients, (patients’ families) comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress.
• Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and processes related to direct patient care.
• Documents initial nursing histories, assesses patient’s conditions and develops individual care plans for patients.
• Monitors and ensure accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Maintains all required reports, records, statistics etc.
• Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/ families in accordance with organizational standards.
• Assists attending physicians and aids patients and families as needed in times of stress or crisis.
• Makes patient rounds and sees to it that all patients in the ward get the necessary care.
• Sees to it that all equipment is in order and properly kept and supplies are available.
• Checks and countersigns recordings done by the staff nurse.
• Assists the clinical instructor, prepares students assignments for their clinical experiences, and assist in the evaluation of their performance.
• Sees to it that doctor’s orders are carried out properly and intelligently by the staff.
• Plans and supervises all nursing activities in the ward.
• Evaluates performance of the staff every six months.
• Coordinates ward activities in the administration of nursing service with all other hospital services.
• Participates in the orientation of new staff and nursing students.
• Represents the ward in the nursing service meetings and other hospital meetings when necessary.
• Act as supervising nurse when so delegated.
• Renders direct nursing care if the unit is understaffed.
• Supervises cleanliness and orderliness of the ward.
• Provides/ maintains adequate facilities, equipment, and supplies necessary for good patient care for the unit.
• Provides an environment that is conducive to the physical, spiritual, and emotional well- being of patients and personnel.
• Participates in formulating/ interpreting/ implementing philosophy, objectives, and policies of the nursing services.
• Establishes, promotes, and maintains good interpersonal relationship.
• Evaluates nursing staff the unit, and gives them assignments according to their capacity.
• Identifies nursing problems in the ward.
• Acts as a liaison between patients and members of the health team.
