Main Project (M.Tech)
Project Title: Study of Fluidization Behaviour of Selected Materials.
Description: The objective is to determine the minimum fluidization velocity and hydrodynamic characteristics for binary mixture of biomass and inert particles at different weight fractions. The experimental values of the minimum fluidization velocities will be compared with different drag models. Fluidized bed is a better candidate for thermo chemical process of biomass as well as for the industrial and chemical reactor application as it facilitates many particles of varying sizes to behave just like fluid resulting efficient mixing between solid particles and fluid. Biomass particles are difficult to fluidize because of their peculiar shapes, sizes and densities (e.g. large in sizes, low in densities and extreme in shape) . In order to improve fluidization and processing in the reactor, a second fluidization medium typically inert material (sand) has been used to facilitate fluidization.

Summer Internship Project (M.Tech) Duration: 6 Weeks
Company: Haldia Petrochemicals Limited, Haldia Plant
Project Title: Simulation of Cooling Water Distribution in Naptha Cracking Unit Using Aspen Plus 11.1 Software.
Description: Process Flow Diagram (PFD) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) study of Cooling Water Distribution in Naptha Cracking Unit, designing and simulation of 30 plus different types of shell and tube heat exchangers involved in the Naptha Cracking Unit manually and also using software Aspen Plus 11.1 and HTRI. Challenges faced were connecting all the heat exchangers together to get the required flow properties and to optimize the output values.


Main Project (B.Tech) Duration: 12 Weeks
Project Title: The Manufacture of Terephthalic Acid
Description: Final year project done on the manufacture of Terephthalic Acid involving an in-depth study of the process flow sheet, Energy and Mass balances of the input and output, Design of Batch Reactors, Distillation Columns, Heat-Exchanger to maximize the output and Economic analysis of the plant.

Industrial training
METECNO (India) PVT.LTD Duration: 15 Days
Production of urethane polymer by carrying out a reaction of amine that is generated in the gas formation reaction which reacts with more isocyanate to form a disubstituted urea cross-links the urethane polymer. Gained knowledge on different types of building products.


Madras Fertilizers Limited, Chennai Duration: 11 Days
Separation of granules of NPK fertilizer by screening, followed by cooling, coating and polishing of the granules and product bagging. Study of reverse osmosis plant with 3 streams of 160 m3 each. Case study of demister system at the top of the Urea Prilling Tower to reduce the quantity of entrained urea in the outlet air stream.
