• Completes a head to toe physical assessment and a social assessment of the patient upon admission.
• Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, non-invasive blood pressure, and pulse oximetry. Start/or evaluate IV site. Evaluate existing drainage systems in place.
• Develop a written Care Plan upon admission and review and update it daily.
• Recognize cardiac arrhythmias. Intervene using physician orders, ACLS Algorithm, or ICU standing orders.
• Re-assess patient to identify progress and trends that require intervention or reporting to the physician.
• Operate equipment: IV pump and Cardiac Monitors, Ventilator, Bi-Pap, Doppler, Temperature probes, and use and management of Blakemore tubes.
• Administer medications, calculate doses and maintain current knowledge of medications.
• Assess the patient’s learning needs. Educate the patient and family.
• Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity.
• Follow the standard for infection control; hand washing, protective eyewear, mask, gown, gloves, head cover, and shoe cover, as appropriate. Proper disposal of contaminated items and the use of isolation.
• Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation.
• Initiate and coordinate a Code Blue.
• Behave in a professional manner and maintain good interpersonal relationships with other staff, departments, manager, and physicians.
• Participate in orientation of new ICU staff. Provide nursing students with opportunities to observe and learn.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Collaborates with other health care team members to demonstrate standards of care.
Follow the infection control procedures.
Takes care of patients 24/7 ranging from moderately to severely sick clients.
