RESPONSIBILITIES:
* I am working with Mauritian Agriculture Scientists of Mauritian Sugar Industry
Research Institute (MSIRI) including Soil Scientists, Soil Chemists, Agronomists,
Entomologists, Plant Pathologists, Irrigation and Agriculture Engineers.
* Managing 50 acres all activities of research and development farm of Fatima Sugar Mills
Ltd.
* Conduct seminars, one to one and farmer’s group meetings to educate the growers
regarding latest production technology and better management practices.
* Land survey and evaluation of land capability classification and crop suitability rating for
the planning of irrigation for sugarcane crop research and development.
* To conduct different pesticides and fertilizers trials on sugarcane. This involves
measuring different qualitative and quantitative parameters, evaluation of results and
making recommendations.
* Carrying out soil sampling, analysis and making fertilizer recommendations of Fatima
Group Sarsabz fertilizers.
* Importing fuzz from international sugar research institutes, conducting and monitoring
National Uniform Variety Yield Trials (NUVYT) of Sugarcane offered from NARC
Islamabad.
* To provide assistance to sugarcane growers for adopting modern technology for land
preparation, use of efficient irrigation systems, balanced fertilization based on soil test
results, integrated insect pest management approach and Hot Water Treatment of cane
seeds against diseases (treated plots used as nursery for next year).
* Introduction of new sugar cane varieties with high sucrose contents and yield by
replacing old & low sucrose contents & low yielding varieties.
* Carry out identification and study agronomic aspects of new varieties like tillering
pattern, growth and development of crop.
* Assisting in soil and water testing laboratory in performing all the tests regarding soil,
water, leaves, manure and fertilizer analysis. Also linking the soil and water results
geographically (Latitude, Longitude).
* To facilitate the growers for loaning objectives, verify the cane development loan
applications and processing and disbursement of required loan.
* To maintain the proper record of survey, loanees, village maps and other related
information in the office.
